Taking It in Stride

As a 31-year-old vice president and United States equities trader at Cantor Fitzgerald, Pamela Chu was under constant pressure. "I never saw her stressed out," said her close friend Christiana Yu, "but she told me about customers barking, `This is what I want. Don't sell too low. Don't buy too high.' And there was a lot of trading going at one time. And she was the only female trader and only Asian in her department, and that was difficult, but she seemed so relaxed."

Ms. Chu was born in Korea, and with her parents she moved to the United States when she was 2. After graduating from the University of Buffalo, she started working for Cantor Fitzgerald as a temporary clerk. In recent years, she counted among her clients Ms. Yu and her husband, Edwin Chan, and often joined them for dinner and weekend trips.

Last May, Ms. Chu moved from her parents' home in Queens to a recently renovated rental apartment five minutes from her office. By doing that, she said, she could get to work by 6:30 a.m.

Not sure what to say?

Here remembering you, Pamela, who I knew as Chi Chu in junior high school, on this 20th anniversary of 9/11. So many fun memories from days gone by. You were lost too soon. May you rest in eternal peace.

Remembering Pamela on the 20th anniversary of 9/11...

We will never forget. Pausing today to think of Ms. Chu's friends and family. Much love from Texas.

In memory of a Cantor Fitzgerald VP who left us too soon.

On September 11, 2019, I was working as a TSA screener in the San Diego, CA airport. This was my first year as a Federal employee at this job. At the end of the night, I was given a card with Pamela's name on it in remembrance of the 9/11 event.

I will keep this card always and will never forget why I do what I have to do at my job every day to avoid another 9/11 from happening in the USA.

God bless the Chu family and their friends.

I'm just learning of Pamela's passing. There was no doubt that she would take on the world when we were in high school at Grace King. She was smart, funny and witty in a way that combined serious notes with sarcasm to make a point stick. I appreciated our many conversations and her sarcastic smile. I can still see it. Much love to Pamela's family, and know that she made a lasting impression on everyone she allowed into her life.

I wanted to come back and remember you, and also remember Christiana who passed yesterday. May God bless you both and hold you forever.

On the tenth anniversary of the 9-11 attacks I participated in the America's 9-11 Memorial Ride in August of this year. This year the foundation gave all of us riders a card with the name of a victim of the attacks that we would ride in honor of. Mine happened to be Ms. Chu's. Although I know very little of her, I was privileged to carry her name on my bike from Somerset, PA to Ground Zero in NYC. I hope her family has found some peace and comfort in these 10 years, and they know we will...
