Pamela L. Pick (nee Tainter), 69, passed away at home on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, after a long battle with lupus and AL Amyloidosis. She was born on Feb. 11, 1946, to Robert Stevenson Tainter and Leona E. (Peltier) Tainter in Los Angeles. Pam graduated from Eagle Rock High School, Winter 1963. On July 17, 1965, she married Robert O. Pick in Pacific Palisades, California, and they had 50 wonderful years together, celebrating their golden anniversary with their children and grandchildren.
Pam was a homemaker, volunteer, and an Army wife. Her gregarious nature helped her to fit in well with the Army Wives Clubs at various assignments and support to the unofficial communications system that the husbands didn't have. In addition to people, she loved animals; cats, dogs, bats and horses - even to the point of playing midwife to a mare in difficulty when no one else was around to help. She enjoyed learning new things, playing cards, gardening, riding, and quilting. The latter she made for friends and relatives as well as to give away - over 300 of them to a Juarez orphanage, the Linus project, police, fire, and sheriff's department, Wounded Warriors program, and La Casa. She was proud to receive her BS with high honors in geography (hence her license plate GEOGR4) from NMSU in 2003.

Pam is survived by her husband, Bob; a daughter, Terri; a son, Brian; as well as four grandchildren, Margo, Mallory, Michael and Myles Pick. Her parents and one granddaughter, Madison, predeceased her.

According to her wishes, she has been cremated. There will be a memorial service on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at 10 a.m. in Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E. Boutz Road, Las Cruces, NM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Geography Department at NMSU or Bat Conservation International (Batcon.org).

Not sure what to say?

Pam was a lovely person and a great Geographer. I was lucky to have her as my student at NMSU. Pam was always upbeat and gave so much to the world. I send my heartfelt condolences - and the entire Geography Department expresses our deepest sympathies to her family. Rest in Peace Geographer Pam.

I am so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in God's promise that we can see our loved ones again. John 6:40 & 1Thessalonians 4:13.

May you rest in peace and your family find peace knowing you are in Heaven with the Lord. God bless you all.

My deepest condolences to the Pick family. Pam kept her horse, Val, at my place for several years. She always had a smile on her face and happy outlook on everything. It seemed that she really enjoyed her "barn time". She will be missed.
