J M Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc. - Petersburg Obituary

Mrs. Patricia Lazaile Goode-Thornton, 61, entered into eternal rest to suffer no more on November 14, 2017 with her daughter and family by her side.  Patricia was born in Petersburg, VA, and attended Petersburg High School graduating Class of 1975. She was preceded in death by her mother, Laura Goode; father, Authur Lewis; granddaughter, baby Dallas Goode; grandmother, Pearl Watson, and two sisters, Mary Taylor and Colestia (Liz) Brown.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, David Thornton; her only child and devoted daughter, Tosheika Goode; two granddaughters, Kelis Goode who she lovingly called “Na-Na,” and Milan Goode (MiMi); her only grandson, London Goode (Dun-Dun). She loved her daughter and grandchildren and spent her everyday life trying to make them happy and finding ways to bless them; three step sons, Michael, Todd and Ronald Thornton (Ruth) all of Pennsylvania.  Patricia is survived by: one brother, Bennie Goode, Jr. (Wilnet); sisters, Diane Goode, Sheila Goode, Joyce Goode, Bernadette Jones, Gayle Sykes, and her partner in crime and best friend, sister, Carolyn Goode (where you saw one, you saw the other); a sister-in-law, Marion Henry; a god sister , Patricia Eure; nieces, Tonya Goode, Kalistiya Thompson (Marcus), Lashawn Mills (Stephen), Shanika Goode, Ebony Goode, Aiesha Jones (Corey), Shantell Allen (Andre), Shannon Brown, Iman Goode, and Sharon Brown; nephews, Opara Taylor and Antoine Brown. She was also the adoptive mother to Dashawn Jackson, whom she loved and adored, Shanice Jackson (NeNe), Keith Hinton, Teraz Hinton, Wesley Hinton, Sharmon Hinton, Shameeka Malone, Ashley Strother, Tia Strother, Christina George, and Felicia Ruffin, whom she held very near and dear to her heart.  Patricia was the godmother to Samone Ruffin, Simone Jones, Sentel Davis, Jazmine Spencer, Deon Goodwyn, Katrina Flowers, Tashundra Peoples, Sherron Flowers, Jakaylah Sandozz, and Tierra and Michael Mosby.

Patricia was preceded in death by devoted friends, Ellen Lyons, Marvin Swiney, Michelle Cunningham, Rochelle Jackson, Michelle Lima, and Pamela Hansar (Gary). Patricia was so very loved by many. She was a very kind, giving and generous woman. Her long-time friends will remember her for her good deeds and even better times. Patricia’s friends were so plentiful but among them devoted: Angela Swiney, Dorrine Spencer (Thomas), Patricia Jones (Danny), Michelle Strother (Lester), Sylvia Barlow, Mary Lewis, Jeananne Coureton, Katrina Batts, Faye Caple, Jacqelin Cole, Lashawn Graham, Sharon Saunders, Brenda Freeman, Lashawn and Stephen Mills; former son-in-law, Cornelius Wills; caretakers, Connie Stevens and Charlotte Parker;  a host of others to include: the West Street Crew, Pegram Street Family, Kirkham Street Family, and the Class of 1975.

Patricia was baptized at an early age at Third Baptist Church in Petersburg and was a long-time member until her health declined. At an early age Patricia realized she had a knack for hair and attended Flair Beauty School in Petersburg, VA. Patricia later worked at Southside Regional Medical Center as an X-Ray Technician for many years. She later found her calling in providing hospice care which is what she did until her health declined. Patricia attended Colorado Technical College receiving a degree in sciences, which she was ecstatic about.

Patricia’s legacy will live on through many. She has spent a majority of her life providing a home for people and children in need. She loved to have family gatherings and absolutely lived for Christmas. Christmas was her favorite holiday because of her spirit of giving. Everyone always was in awe with her elaborate decorations and numerous gifts under her tree. The best thing about it was that with all that giving, she never asked for anything in return.

Patricia enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and going to the casino in her spare time. If you ever needed to find her she was sure to be in one of those places. Patricia’s legacy will live on for she was the true meaning of a philanthropist.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? JOHN:14

To the Goode and Thornton family, many hearts are extremely heavy at this time and heads are full of "Why's." But, may you remember the goodness and kindness that was so much a part of your love one.
