Kaniewski Funeral Home - South Bend Obituary

Patricia E. Hamann, 84, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 in The Milton Home. Patricia was born on July 10, 1928 in South Bend to Michael and Helen (Kubasik) Kuminecz, and was a lifelong resident. She retired from the South Bend Tribune in 1980, where she was employed as a Switchboard Operator. On October 12, 1957 in St. Stanislaus Church, she married Fredric A. Hamann, who survives. Also surviving are her two sons, Michael (Lori Mazick) Hamann and David (Becky) Hamann both of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, Kate (Juan) Valenzuala, Jake (Anne) Hamann, Nick (Kelly) Hamann, Pete (Gina) Hamann, and Lisa Hamann; one step-granddaughter, Andrea; three great-grandchildren, Lucas Anthony, Lucas Satchel, and Elijah Michael Hamann; and two sisters, Dorothy (Paul) Meert and Theresa (Ellis) Villalovas both of Bakersfield, CA. Patricia was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Mary Hamann; one sister, Jeanette Kuminecz; and one brother, Robert Kuminecz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 in St. Stanislaus Church. To honor Patricia's request, there will be no visitation. Private burial will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Patricia was a member of St. Stanislaus Parish. She was devoted to her Catholic Faith and the Rosary. In her younger years, Patricia was talented athlete and tennis player on South Bend's Westside. She was proud to be a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Patricia loved to watch her sons, Mike and Dave, play baseball, and she volunteered countless hours, with her husband, Fred, at South Side Little League. Friends of Mike and Dave, while growing up, always felt welcome at the Hamann home, thanks to Pat's hospitality. Patricia had a great sense of humor and was an avid reader. She enjoyed hosting parties for her family. Patricia loved her grandchildren. The Hamann family wishes to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to Mary Beth "Betsy" Coleman for her selfless love, care and attention to Patricia over the last few years.
