Patricia Knapp Obituary

Patricia (Dias) Knapp

It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia (Dias) Knapp announces her passing on June 8, 2017 at the age of 82 after a brief illness.

Born June 7, 1935 in Boardman, Ohio, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, John L. Knapp of Randolph, Ohio; as well as her parents, Wilbert T. and Helen K. (Davis) Dias; her brother, Jack Dias;, and her first-born child, John T. Knapp.

Pat is lovingly remembered as a faithful wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and tireless volunteer and businesswoman. She is survived by nine children: Randall (Vickie) Knapp of Lima, Ohio, Jeff (Mari) Knapp of Atwater, Ohio, Bonnie (Lee) Jenior of Randolph, Ohio, Daniel (Allison) Knapp of Sarasota, Florida, Nancy (Robert) Larson of Medina, Ohio, Kurtis (Judith) Knapp of Suffield, Ohio, Stephen (Jennifer) Knapp of Suffield, Ohio, Linda (Craig) Edington of Parker, Colorado, and Bradley (Leah) Knapp of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and 18 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a large extended family and countless friends.

Pat's passion for helping others became a lifelong commitment to community service as she volunteered 10,672 hours at Summa Health System-Akron City Hospital (ACH), starting with her early days as a candy striper and nursing student before becoming a hospital volunteer, serving on the ACH Women's Board and managing the ACH Gift Shop.

Pat loved the Lord and was an active member of St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church in Rootstown, Ohio, serving as a Sunday school teacher as well as on numerous committees and volunteer groups including the Altar Rosary Society. In 2010, Pat made her perpetual profession to the Holy Family Institute, a Vatican-approved institute of consecrated life.

In addition to her volunteer work, Pat made custom wedding cakes from her home. Deciding she had too much time on her hands after the youngest of her nine children began school, she started the Calico, Wicker and Thyme Quilt Shoppe in Brimfield, Ohio, which she ran for nearly 15 years, while also serving as supervisor of the quilt displays at the Portage County Randolph Fair.

While her volunteer work and businesses filled her days, her devotion to her family filled her heart. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Because she lived, three current generations of Knapps - and countless more to come - know faith and love and charity. They will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be held at St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church in Rootstown, Ohio on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 9 to 11 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter of the Fields Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church or the Women's Board of Summa Health, Akron Campus. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.wood-kortright-borkoski.com.

"Mom"Knapp truly was my second Mom growing up. I felt like one of the loving fun busy sometimes hectic family. I spent many weekends with Dan at his house. Many rides home from practice as our Mom's would alternate driving. Mrs Knapp was always involved with something going on with her children. She always made me feel welcome and special. How did she accomplish that with 9 other children of her own ..... Yet she did. I have kept in touch over the years. I always made Mom Knapp's Christmas card one of my first Christmas cards each year. She impacted my life in so many ways. I am joyful that she is now with the Lord and Mr Knapp. I have strong faith and believe I shall see her again someday. My condolences and prayers for Dan and all my Knapp Family. I love you all.

My sincere condolences to your family. Pat was always so kind to me, and very patient as I was learning how to quilt. I respected and admired her love and commitment to her faith and family. She was a wonderful role model to me, and probably didn't even realize it. It was just the way she lived her life. May she Rest In Peace.

I want to extend my sympathy to the entire family. Pat was a very nice lady and also a devoted WAB member. I think Pat and I hit it off so well because she had nine children and I had 8 brothers and sisters. Every Christmas when I put up the decorations, there are a few from the gift shop that Pat had me buy.

Patty was my next door neighbor when we were in high school. My family moved from PA, and I had never ridden a school bus, didn't know the customs here, etc. Patty took me under her wing, and explained what I needed to know. She was so kind and always thoughtful. I babysat for her when I was in high school. Patty and Johnny were special. God Be With Their Family!

I will certainly miss those twinkling eyes and the look she would give me when she didn't quite agree with something I said. I will miss her volunteering with us at the Clothing Center and picking out something she thought I would look good in. I will miss picking her up for the evening events with church groups. I will miss hearing about her latest books and her peddling books at the Church book sale in November for her historic church which she loved. I feel especially blessed to have had her in my life and to know her great love for her family. I am so sorry I am unable to be at the funeral this Thursday but I will be praying for her and for all the family....but I know she is reading away up there in heaven! Such a blessing to all of us.
