I don't know if anyone will ever see my message because I am so late in sending it. Pixie and I taught together at Hillsdale Elementary for all of her 30 years and we always enjoyed chatting about our favorite books. Once she retired to make it easier to care for her mother, I continued to teach at Hillsdale for another 21 years. Pixie and I kept in touch and our conversations always wound up being about books. I first met Pixie when we were freshmen at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC. We were suite mates that year, 1964-65, and then roommates our soph. year. We each went to other colleges after that but remained friends . She would visit my husband and I each fall and she and I would go back to WWC for homecoming. Pixie taught fourth grade down the hall from me at Hillsdale Elementary School in Aberdeen for a number of years. We became friends and kept in touch all these years. We both enjoyed antiques. I last spoke with her in early January and am so glad we had that conversation. She was an excellent teacher and a wonderful mentor to a first-year teacher and recent college graduate. Rest in eternal peace, Pixie. Your friends will miss you and your sense of humor.
