Colonial Funeral Homes - Brick Obituary

Patricia Jean Wilson of Brick died peacefully at the age of 76 surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Patricia was born in Bayonne, NJ, to Theodore and Rose Orzepowski. She attended St. Aloysius Academy in Jersey City, Georgian Court University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology, and Rutgers University, where she received her master’s and doctoral degrees in developmental psychology. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at International Flavors and Fragrances in research on olfaction, she worked for most of her career as a fulltime member of the psychology faculty at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she reached the rank of associate professor with tenure. Patricia conducted research on emotion and sensory experience, with a particular focus on the aesthetic experience of flowers. She was a published author, actively taught and mentored undergraduate and graduate students, and touched countless lives.

Together with her late husband John she raised two sons, Scott and David, and one daughter, Sheri, and invested deeply in the lives of her seven grandchildren. Patricia was a woman who selflessly gave to everyone whose life she touched. She was a loving and endlessly caring wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a dedicated and devoted academic who worked tirelessly to support her students’ academic success. She was a passionate intellectual with a strong commitment to her views, who was driven by a desire to improve the lives of others. She was a woman who strove to overcome barriers, blaze new paths, and help everyone around her grow through the process. In addition to her devotion to her family and her work, she was an accomplished pianist and painter.

Patricia was predeceased by her parents Ted and Rose, and her husband John. She is survived by her children Scott, his wife Denise and their children Liam and Ella; Sheri, her partner Stephen and their children Aedan and Emma; David, his wife Kate and their children Benjamin, Annie, and Maya; and her siblings Diane, John, and Glenn. She will be dearly missed by all.

Visitation will be held on Friday May 12, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, in Brick. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, 10:00 am at Church of the Epiphany inBrick. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.

Not sure what to say?

A great colleague and a classy lady. I will miss her.

Dr. Wilson was a fabulous professor and mentor. She was on my dissertation committee and was just so supportive, compassionate, and enthusiastic about my project and my professional and personal goals. She was a light and source of support throughout a difficult graduate school journey. I am sad to think that new students at La Salle will not be able to experience her courses and learn from her wisdom. My deepest condolences to your family.

Pat made a point to come congratulate me on my graduation. She walked every step of the way through my training and was a dear friend and colleague.

Pat was more than just my professor and colleague, she was a dear friend. She stood by me for every challenge and bolstered me up when even I lost faith in myself. I will always remember our late nights over pizza and wild psychological theories as we drafted our paper; our bonding over fantasy and romance novels, even if we made fun of them at times; and our side splitting lunches full of laughs and warmth. She lit up my life and the lives of everyone. She will be dearly remembered and missed.

Pat Wilson entered my life when she entered the doctoral program in Psychology at Rutgers University. She brought a mature understanding of a life already well and lovingly lived to the inquiring and demanding life of the university. Pat, esteemed by many colleagues, had a rare gift for compassionate sharing of her rich life with all who entered it. For her -- family, friends, writing, teaching – each part enriched the others. Over many years we worked together on academic and applied...

Professor Wilson was a joy to have teaching Psychology. In the short time that I knew her, her passion for education and all things Psychology has taught me to never take higher education for granted. Seeing her smile and greet me as I walked into class everyday has made such a positive impact on myself and my classmates. May God rest her soul and my condolences to her family and friends.

Such a beautiful tribute for an amazing woman. You live a full and purposeful life! I will always remember your kindness and unconditional love. Rest peacefully, Mrs. Wilson

I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for always encouraging me and believing in me. You are going to be one of the biggest reasons I’m able to finish this program and become a psychologist, and I’ll forever be grateful.
