Patrick DuBois Obituary

Patrick Raymond DuBois

Patrick Raymond DuBois, 47, of Clayton passed away on 09/29/17 from injuries sustained during a car accident. Pat was a loving husband to his wife Jessica (Largent) DuBois, devoted father of two children, Lucas (10) and Brielle (9), brother to David John Dubois, son-in-law to Phil and Annie Largent, brother-in-law to Katie Largent, and step-son of Sally DuBois.

Patrick was born on 04/12/70 in Sacramento, CA to the late David Francis and Joan (Hazelbusch) DuBois and was predeceased by his twin sister Jill Nicole. Patrick grew up in Lake Tahoe and Apple Valley, CA and went to high school in Fort Collins. He graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. He then moved to New York where he met Jessica in 1999; they married in 2005. Patrick approached everyone as a life long friend, even when meeting them for the first time.

Patrick worked for the USDA for 15 years as a Plant Heath Safeguarding Specialist. He volunteered at Shaw University as a DJ where he shared his love for Reggae music with the Raleigh area.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Sat. 10/7. Contact McLaurin funeral home in Clayton for details, 919-553-7143. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a fund for Patrick's children; contact Edward Jones, (919) 553-7431.

I no longer work the USDA exhibit at BugFest, but if I did I would definitely miss Patrick. His sunny disposition and engaging approach to educating kids about USDA's mission with invasive insects was a real blessing.

My prayers are going out to the family. I met Patrick when he invited me to sit in with him at the station as he played. He knew i loved reggae music and encouraged me to try to get on the station. When he left the station it so happened I was his replacement. He was a great person he called me at the station on the 23rd to tell me what an awesome job I was doing and that he would come and visit. He will be truly missed. Rest in paradise Patrick

Jess,
I have been struggling to find the words right now to express how I feel. I cannot stop crying and love you guys so much. Pat of course is so special to me. Beyond a best friend. He always makes me feel good inside and to see the positive in life. The most caring individual I have known and a magical soul to say the least. I wish I could be by your side right now I really do. From the first time I met him at Frederick we discussed the cosmos and the interconnectivity of all life forms. Star dust and love. The ability to teach others is his amazing gift to humanity and nothing but unconditional love for all creatures on this magnificent rock. I love him so much and he always made me try and be a better person which as you know was a struggle for my pessimistic ways.. The bond that you, Pat, Paul, me, and Lisa shared was a special one that always made me feel whole. Lisa is a mess and sends her love as well. You and Pat are so very dear and special to her. We talk of you guys weekly and reminisce of all the amazing times we spent together. I still remember you and Pat taking us around New York when Geneva was only three years old and Lisa was pregnant with Owen. Watching Survivor and football while having BBQs at Pauls house in Raleigh. Hanging out with you and the kids in Clayton before we moved. Hanging out at our house out here in Fort Collins. I drive by the house he grew up in out here at least once a week and always smile. That smile of Pats was contagious and always brought warmth to my entire being. I see both you and Pat in your beautiful children and know they will be amazing individuals. We love you tons!

Patrick and I attended NOT together for 13 weeks at the beginning of his USDA career. We played hacky-sac nearly every break. We shared connections at Ft. Lewis College. I called him my friend for these many years and I'm dismayed by this news. I will miss him. Godspeed Patrick. I'll carry you and your family in my thoughts.

Patrick always had a positive attitude and a kind word. We always got PPQ business out of the way so we could talk about our kids. I pray the entire family can find some small comfort in the memories and good times you shared. My prayer for you all are the words of Numbers 6:24-26..."May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you His peace."

We are still in disbelief at the news of Patrick's accident, having just seen him late last week. He was our USDA inspector at the nursery. His positive attitude and incredible ability to make everyone seem like his best friend, leaves us all with a hole in our heart and tears looking for a dry place to land. Having lost a spouse a few years prior, I can only imagine what you're going through. One hour at a time is often the best way to avoid becoming overwhelmed as you embark on your new journey. We're sending positive thoughts to all the family.
