Today I decided to search for Professor Getty's email, hoping to notify him about my time in graduate school. I was his student whenever the pandemic began during March of 2020. I am utterly devastated to hear of his passing. He truly inspired me to pursue academia, however I never got the chance to thank him formally.

I wish to extend my deepest condolences to Patrick´s family, as I have just learned of his passing. Having learned he passed in November 2021, I was fortunate to speak with him in late-October and early-November of that year. As I was recalling memories of him earlier today, it occurred to me we first met while he was completing his Master´s degree at UMass. We spent many days together with Kornell Nash at Dinosaurland prior to Kornell´s passing, and we collaborated on support for the...

I just found out about Patrick´s passing. I met Patrick when we were in college at UMASS back in 2001 during our summer internship. He was a really great guy. Rest In Peace, Patrick.

I just now found out about this--I am disheartened. I am not a science person--I was awful and afraid of basic math like conversions. I dreaded both of my science courses, but I took professor Getty. This man made science fun and easy for me--something I had never thought was possible. He made it so understandable! Rest well, Dr. Getty.

I'm so sorry to learn of Patrick's passing. Obviously we'd lost touch a bit after grad school but I always wished him well and followed his remarkable professional accomplishments. He was very welcoming to me and my colleagues in the anthropology department who ended up renting the house where he was living. I loved Bart and got to see Patrick and Dennis' early days as a couple. Patrick made the world a better place and I'll miss his energy in it.

Oh my, I just now found out. Patrick & Bart would walk by my house & frequently we would catch each other to talk & catch up. Bart would enjoy a dog treat. I was worried cuz I hadn't seen him & inquired with a few neighbors. Oh this breaks my heart. Such a sweet, kind soul. I will surely miss our spontaneous chats. My thoughts & prayers are with you who knew him better & got to love him longer.

With great sympathy for your loss. I enjoyed interacting and learning from Patrick at Dinosaur State Park and other field trips. He was a gifted educator. Photo from a 2017 trip he co-led.
