Not sure what to say?

Sadly I lost touch with Gen. Hughes a few years ago and only learned of his passing when I was researching Directors of DIA and saw his name listed as "In Memoriam." What a sad thing to find....

Pat and my dad were close friends, both being 3 stars in the Army and bound by an eternal connection as Director of DIA. After my dad passed, Pat was ever so helpful post-funeral, very supportive of my family and kept in touch over the years. I regret having let that line of...

I can't say how much I enjoyed speaking to Gen Hughes on and off throughout the years of 2016 all the way up until early 2024. He reached out when he first heard about my own father (Col Marc Powe) and we continued a regular email correspondence and occassional phone call. His care and concern and generosity was so genuine; his curiousity just like my dads -- which always made me laugh. I would love so much to speak to a family member just to say 'hello' and 'thank you.' You have no idea how...

Absolutely the smartest man I have known!

A superlative officer, human being, and friend, Pat Hughes was the best of the best that Army MI offered to our national intelligence capability during perilous times. Rest in peace, pal.

LTG Pat Hughes was a Great Soldier, Leader, Mentor and Friend. I met him first during our Army careers, befriended and have admired him since. He was friendly, helpful, humble, well-read, smart, and thought out-of-the- box.
We saw each other and communicated regularly.
Pat will be sorely missed. Condolences and Prayers to his Wife, Family, and Friends. Rest In Peace.

You will be missed

General Hughes was a friend and mentor. He was a great soldier, leader, thinker and teacher. His wisdom and analysis of complexity brought insights to many. His sense of humor could uplift in the most dour of times. His made the world a better and safer place.

I served with then Colonel Hughes in the 109th MI 9th ID. We both parted that unit in July of 1986. Colonel Hughes at the time loved Tab soda and Twix candy bars!!! He was a great leader and one of the best officers I have ever served under. RIP hero

A great leader and mentor that I was honored to work for and learn from. He allowed me to make mistakes and grow from them, always providing sage counsel and perspective even during highly stressful times. Our team never wanted to let him down. A very special man who served his country with distinction.
