MCKELVEY, Patrick James March 11th, 1960- October 7th, 2013 . It is with great sadness we announce that Pat passed away peacefully with family around him after a brief illness at Nanaimo Palliative Care Unit. Predeceased by father Jim McKelvey, mother Edrie McKelvey and brother David McKelvey. He is survived by his fiancé and best friend Melanie; his daughter and best friend Sarah, stepsons Dustin and Bailey, brother Brad (Lee), and nephews Dan and Erik, plus many more friends and family. Pat was born and raised in Port Alberni where he said that he had the best childhood. As a young Canadian boy, he enjoyed camping, fishing, hockey, boxing, lacrosse and growing up outdoors. Pat started working at the Photography House where he later became a manager. He then began his retail career working as a clerk at Woodwards in Port Alberni. Furthering his career as a store manager, he spent time working in several retail stores in BC. Later, in need of a change, he took on the position of manager and co-owner of the Levi's stores in Nanaimo and Whistler. For the last 10 years of his life, he worked as the proud marketing manager at the Nanaimo Hudson Bay Company, where he is was adored and respected by all. He loved his job and took pride in everything he did. When away from work, Pat spent the majority of his time outdoors - either running, biking, weight lifting, or entertaining family and friends. All who knew him will miss him greatly, and remember his inspiring ways and overall love for life. You will be missed beyond words, but will forever be in our hearts. . "There are places where they never sleep And the circus never ends So I will take the Marley Bone Coach And whistle down the wind" . The family would like to thank all of the incredible doctors and nurses at the Victoria Jubilee hospital on the 8th floor and the Palliative Care Unit in Nanaimo for their great care and kindness during Pat's short illness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC cancer society. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday October 20th at the Eagles Hall (921 - 1st Avenue) Ladysmith from 1 to 3 pm. I just want to say how sorry I am about Pat's passing. We were work partners way back at McDONALDS and good friends in school and had some great times and good laughs. As we grew older, I did not see Pat that often, but when we did see each other, it was like we were right back, to that time. He was a great person. And I feel very fortunate to have spent time with him. My sincerest sympathies. Grant Mccombie and family.

So very sad to hear of Pat's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Pat in Port Alberni at KFC back in the day. Too much fun. As we moved on with our lives I would run into Pat through the years in Port Alberni, Nanaimo and Victoria. There was always time for a chat and a smile. I feel blessed to have known him. Pat was my very 1st crush. I was the 13 yr old stalking the 21 yr old cutie at the camera counter in Woodwards. He took it so well and was careful with my teenage heart. We ended up being friends later and would bump into one another in Nanaimo on occasion. I lost touch but never forgot him. I'm saddened by his passing - he will forever have a place in my heart.

I knew Pat and will miss him. I saw him just this year on the ferry and he looked great, its too bad this happened so quickly. He really taught me a lot about sales and how to succeed in business. You can be friends with your employees and still earn their respect :-)
- Thanks for everything
