Not sure what to say?

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Patrick and his delightful family only several days before his passing. It was truly a gift, and I am grateful that we had the interactions. Thank you to the entire family for allowing me to briefly come into your lives. My sympathies to all of you, but I am certain Patrick will always be with you.

Pat was the cousin with whom I spent most of my time as a kid--whenever he and his family were in the U.S., since his dad, my Uncle Bud, was stationed in various countries. We had tremendous rapport, largely based on similarly wacky and prankish senses of humor. Among my fondest childhood memories is of the summer I spent with Pat and his family in Fort Riley, Kansas, when I was 14 and he was 13. I last saw him in 2000, on a visit to Oregon and Washington, and he was the same delightful,...

As Pat's former sister-in-law, I have many fond memories from the time I lived with Jamie and Pat in Albany. He let me wear a pair of his tan corduroy bell bottoms to see CSNY in Portland in May 1970. On chilly days he let me wear his parachute jump suit to ride my bike to work. He made a difference in my life and I'm grateful for having known him.

Kathleen and family,
I'm saddened to read of Patrick's death. My deepest sympathies to you. I've lots of great memories of our years working together at the D-H in the early 1970s. Blessings.

My sister Sue introduced me to Pat @ 1965 in Manhattan, Kansas, where my family lived and where Pat attended college. At the time, I was learning to play the guitar and was inspired by hearing Pat play and sing a number of original songs. They were very well written and, to this day, I remember some of his haunting melodies and wonderful lyrics. (His song, "One Time Baby" remains a "hit" searching for the right artist to perform it.) I will always remember Pat as intelligent, charming, and...

I first met Pat at Kansas State University in, about, 1964. His wit, charm, sense of humor and love of adventure won me over immediately! I became a close friend, along with Larry Alton, Peter Boyle, and many other left wing thinkers. He was an excellent guitar player and singer--he had a style similar to Bob Dylan with an added humor that was consumate to Pat. When he left Kansas for Oregon he never looked back to the Mid-West. But Oregon was a better place because of Pat's writings...

I was women’s editor of the Albany Democrat-Herald in 1969, and how well I remember Patrick. He brought a spirited enthusiasm to the newsroom, and was a joy to be around for many reasons: His clever, spontaneous wit, his joie de vivre and energetic attitude, his lively personality, and, not least of which, his excellent reportorial skills. He was a consummate professional, and when he went on to The Oregonian I looked forward to seeing his byline, and reading his well-researched (and always...

I am very saddened by loss of Mr. O'Neill. I met Patrick in the late 1980's when a family member was terminally ill. He wrote of this child's story with compassion, empathy and a true concern for the family, the child and the over all situation.
We as a society always hope for media people with integrity and morality, passion and honesty. Patrick had all.
I am sorry for your loss.

I worked with Patrick at the Albany Democrat-Herald way back when. He was a talent and a treat with wry sense of humor then, as he was throughout his career and life. While we had lost touch, I knew well of his accomplishments. I wish his family well in this most difficult time.
