CLOSED-Harvey Family Funeral Home Obituary

Patrick Joseph O’Neill was born in Seattle on July 24, 1952 to Robert and Barbara (Pettinger) O’Neill. On June 24, 2019 he died peacefully in his Seattle home, surrounded by his family.

Pat was proud to have been raised on Capitol Hill. He had fond childhood memories of pickup baseball games, riding his bike to Volunteer Park, and the occasional bout of mild mischief with other kids from the Hill.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph School and Seattle Preparatory School. He also attended Seattle University before he was drafted into the Army in 1973. He served several years in the Army Reserves as well.

Pat married his childhood friend and high school prom date Susann Drummey in 1982. They raised their two daughters together in Wedgwood and were married 37 loving years.

Pat retired from the Washington State Ferry system in 2016 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed every minute of retirement and filled it with frequent visits with his grandchildren, fly fishing and casino outings with childhood friends, tinkering in his garden, regular trips to the park with his cherished dog Jasper, listening to classic rock and Motown, reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee in-hand, people-watching with the best of them, scoping out clearance sections of any store he went to, and taking his absolute favorite travel mug everywhere.

He was known for his kind smile, compassionate spirit, quick wit, and the ability to make a friend wherever he went. He enjoyed telling long entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat often. He had a knack for putting together outfits for special occasions in his signature style. Which resulted in an ever-growing hat and cap collection. If you were lucky, you would be privy to his impromptu dance moves or made-up song lyrics.

Pat’s greatest accomplishment was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Barbara; and sister, Michaela Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Susie; daughters, Kyla Vetter (Derek) and Devon Fonseca (Marcel); and grandchildren, Owen and Nora Vetter. He is also survived by his sister, Maureen; brother, Gerard; and many adored cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Not sure what to say?

Pat was a great first cousin to have fun with, and we did plenty of that as kids. Will miss him, altho we hardly heard from him in recent years. We knew he loved his family. Condolences to Susie, Devon and Kyla.

BOTH PAT AND I KIND OF HATED OUR JOBS. BUT SOMETIMES PAT WOULD KEEP ME IN LAUGHING IN STICHES. AM REALLY GOING TO MISS HIM.

Dearest Susie, Kyla and Devon,
I wish I could have been there today to celebrate Pat's life.
He was always so kind and loving.
I know you girls will carry on his legacy and be proud of the father you had.
He will be missed but I think he is kicking up his heels in heaven

Dear Susann and Family,
We Sisters of the Holy Names offer our loving and supportive prayers for all your family. On behalf of all our Sisters who were on the faculty at St. Joseph School, Seattle, while Patrick was a student there, we pray that you may know his nearness often as he lives a new in God's Presence everywhere.

Suzann,

I just heard the news. What a kind and loving man Pat was. He encouraged me on near daily basis through this past year, as I was struggling with those grueling treatments. Always ready with a smile and a greeting, super caring and compassionate, fiercely proud of the family you two had, he was an exceptional person and will be sorely missed. I am sending you lots of love and wishing you the comfort of sweet memories.

Suzanne

We shared many a cigarette break together whilst matriculating at Prep (off school premises, of course) and worked together at the Seattle Times downtown while in high school at night, where they let us smoke at our desks.......many good times with Pat, Susie and their cronies.....Requiescat in pace.
