Pat was a great man for sure. Always treated me with respect when I called on him. I feel the loss for the family. I take relief in the fact he was a family man and lived it. Take care Pat you'll be missed but never forgotten-

I'm so sorry for your families loss. Please pray to God for comfort during this difficult time!

Pat was my schoolmate at Buffalo Center, Iowa from kindergarten through the 12th grade. Always full of fun and grinning, even when competing on the football field or basketball court. Such a terrific guy. Enjoyed reconnecting with him last year at a school reunion. Still grinning and having fun. Very saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts are with his family.

Pat was the brother of my brother-in-law Dan Smith. I only met Pat once, in 1992, at Dan and Lorraine's wedding in Buffalo Center Iowa. Yet, upon hearing of his passing I had such a clear recollection and picture of him in my mind. That is the man he was; vibrant, friendly, memorable. Through the years my sister has shared many stories of the ever growing Smith family resulting in a feeling of kinship for them. As such, I send my thoughts and hope that the beautiful memories of Pat's life...

Dear Lauren and family, our deepest sympathy to you and your family in the loss of your wonderful father and husband. He's the only person I've ever heard of who wanted to live in a hollowed out tree, but I guess that just shows how God blessed him with a tremendous imagination and sense of adventure. May God be with you now and always, and may He heal your broken hearts. With love, Judy and John Case

I am heartbroken for my brother-in-law, Dan Smith, and my sister, Lorraine, on this great loss. I was fortunate to have met Pat just a handful of times, but I could instantly tell he was an extraordinary person. Sending thoughts and prayers from New York.

I met Pat around 7 years ago when I was running the Dowell Center Parking Garage, where his employees would park. We instantly became friends! I would refer any of my patrons who had car problems to his shop, and in return pat gave me free oil changes as long as I worked there. 2 years ago my family and I moved from Our Lady's to St. Francis, and at our first Mass I ran into Pat and knew this was our new home! Pat and I had talked about our faith in the past, how I was Catholic, but had...
