Patrick Joseph “P.J.” Walsh, Sr., 64, of Indian Trail, North Attleboro, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 29, 2003 at his residence following a brief illness. He was the husband of Eileen Mary (Murphy) Walsh to whom he was married on May 4, 1963.
Born in County Galway, Ireland on August 18, 1939, he was a son of the late Thomas and Mary (Cooney) Walsh. He lived in Ireland until immigrating to the United States at the age of 17. Upon arriving in the United States he settled in Attleboro and began a lifelong relationship with the late John and Kathleen (Noone) Walsh and their five children and in later years, their children and grandchildren.
He resided in North Attleboro for the past 30 years having previously resided in Mansfield, Norton and Attleboro.
Mr. Walsh was employed for Walsh Contracting Corporation in Attleboro for 42 years prior to his retirement in January as job superintendent. He was also the founder and owner and operator of the Esker Corporation in North Attleboro for the past 5 years.
He attended Wentworth College in Boston where he was enrolled in engineering courses.
Mr. Walsh was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves from 1962 – 1968.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, Attleboro.
An owner of a Delorian, he was a member of the Delorian Association and often traveled to attend their annual conventions throughout the United States and abroad. Traveling was a favorite pastime, having visited Ireland several times each year and visiting family in Texas and Mississippi and trips to Italy, Scotland, Wales and Holland were among his favorite.
He was a hard worker who enjoyed spending time with his family and listening to Irish music and attending Irish festivals.
In addition to his wife of 40 years, he leaves two sons: Patrick J. Walsh, Jr. of Dallas, Texas and Phillip J. Walsh and his wife, Cindra L. (Drowne) Walsh of North Attleboro; two daughters: Dr. Penney Jo Walsh and her husband, Dr. Barry Stewart, of Starkville, Mississippi and Paula Walsh, Esquire of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren: Mollie and Ciara Walsh both of North Attleboro; four brothers: Sean Walsh, Garoid Walsh, Paul Walsh and Clem Walsh all of Ireland; four sisters: Mary O’Dea, Ann Walsh, Helen Keating and Cora Mundow all of Ireland; surviving members of the John and Kathleen Walsh family and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Funeral Services with Veteran’s Honors on Saturday, January 3, 2004 at 9:45 AM from the “Commonwealth Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue(exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro with the Rev. Monsignor Daniel F. Hoye, Pastor and Rev. Vincent Lawless of Ireland,
co-officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Attleboro.
Visitation with Veteran’s Honors will be held on Friday, January 2, 2004 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the “Commonwealth Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
Supervised children’s room available during visitation.
Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 for free transportation.
