Chuck,
Reading your mother's obituary is special to me....catholic roots and a life filled with family and friends. We mourn the passing of this generation, but we also celebrate their life and the memories left behind. I am confident that her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren....she must have been a special lady.

Nice parable and personal note.
Nice parable:
There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But it won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Remember that family and friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.'
Personal note:
When I look at the "fence" I've made during my life, I see an abundance of scars. When I compare it to the "fence" Patsy built, hers has barely a mark. I ask God why. Why put such a wonderful person through such trials and tribulations? Why have me with my "fence of scars" stand on the sidelines healthy and watch Patsy do battle? Why her and why not me? I don't have the answer but I pray to the One that does. I truly believe that God used Patsy as a symbol of strength. I've always admired our distinguished military warriors and considered them heroes - knowing they "chose" to fight the good fight even though it placed them in harm's way. Patsy didn't "choose" to be placed in harm's way and fight this battle, but she "chose" to fight the good fight. Patsy is my hero. While fighting the good fight, she showed us courage, she made us smile and she opened her hearts to all of us.
Patsy,
When I was scared on bended knees and my world was crumbling around me in that empty hospital hallway, you somehow found me. You didn't say a word - you just hugged me. My tears flowed and you just hugged me. No words could have expressed more love. You gave and continue to give me strength. I love you Patsy.

To my Texas Family,
Our deepest sympathy on your loss. Patsy and Charlie welcomed Keith and I into their home when Maureen and Troy got married. We were treated as if we were lifelong friends. We will never forget the love that was extended to us. My greatest memory of that trip is of Patsy sitting in the kitchen chatting with Keith at breakfast. She was truly the epitome of kindness and southern charm! Patsy was an amazing woman and those of us who were lucky to have her in our lives are blessed. We will never forget this sweet, loving woman who always made each person feel welcomed and loved. Patsy, may you find your peace in heaven, please smile upon us as you watch your children and grandchildren continue your legacy. To Patsy's family, I pray that you are comforted by each other and in your faith that she will always be present in your lives.
All our love,
Your New England Family,
