Patsy King Obituary

Patsy King passed away Feb. 3, 2016, at her home in Anthony, Texas.

She has crossed her last t, and dotted her last i, and now joins the pantheon of writers in the sky. Of course, neither of us really believed there is a pantheon of writers in the sky, no more, alas, than there is a great host of musicians in the sky. Still, as a writer she joins the millennia of those who toiled to find exactly the right words. In her retirement, she wrote stories, a great number of poems, and the story of Sadie Orchard. In three different El Paso writing groups, she helped other seniors compose their stories.
She was a longtime member and past president of the El Paso Writers League. She served as the league historian, and her writing won multiple awards in their contests.
She was also a many year member of the Texas Mountain Trail Writers in Alpine/Fort Davis, Texas.
In her professional years, she taught elementary school in Arkansas, east Texas, Las Cruces, Carlsbad, and a final 18 years at Anthony, New Mexico. Her Future Problem Solving team placed first in state competition and advanced to the finals in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Her study and publication of the life of Sadie Orchard, an oversized character in the early history of Sierra County, New Mexico, gained her many lasting friends in the communities of Hillsboro, Kingston, Chloride, and Truth or Consequences.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; sister Mary Jo Warren; son Fred and wife, Tawnya; daughter Annette and husband, Philip; grandchildren Beth, Carl, Brittany, Courtney, Whitney, Emily, Hayden, Keely and Drew; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and her much loved dog, Pax.
Her name will remain as long as printed words retain their form. Her memory will remain as long as those who knew her live. She was a positive force for all who knew her, and the lives of all who knew her will be diminished to some degree by her loss.
Special thanks are due her very long term doctors, Vipool Patel and G.E. Martin. Her longevity is due to their care over many years.
It is requested that any memorials to her be addressed to the Animal Rescue League of El Paso, or the animal shelter of your choice.

Memorial Service will be Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home- Doniphan.

Mr. King, I am so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of meeting you and your Patsy in passing during a trip to dialysis with my sister in law, Bibiana. It is a great blessing to have one second in time touch in such a profound way. I pray that your heart feels peace and that Mrs. King is rejoicing in the heavens.

Patsy was a dear friend of mine when I worked in Anthony Elementary. We would make the best art projects during our lunches. I stil have the wooden turkey. Patsy and I will go to Juarez during the sugar days and bring back a bag or two. Laughin all the way. Bill was always so fun and supportive of her health issues and hobbies. He directed the band. I feel like we all raised her two kids as they attended school with us. It does not surprize me that she left generations of children great and greater to continue her writng and love that she so generously gave to everyone. She is a loss to all of us. My prayers to Bill and the kids. We always loved to come to her house to see her new collections. They were amazing. Love Linda Cobb Kinkaid
