PATSY PLATT Obituary

PATSY L. (OVERMAN) PLATT, 80, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at Sterling House, Kokomo. Born in Logans port, Ind., Patsy graduated from North Side High School in 1952. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Indiana University and her master's degree from IPFW, both in education. She was a teacher with Fort Wayne Community Schools for 31 years, retiring in 1999. She was an active member, elder and deacon at Grace Presbyterian Church. She had been attending Faith Presbyterian Church, Kokomo, for several years. Patsy was an active volunteer at Parkview Hospital, Forest Park School and the Ronald McDonald Family Room. She was an avid sports fan especially a fan of the Cubs and IU. Patsy also enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family. Surviving are her children, Michael (Julie) Platt of Rockford, Ill., Jay (Bobbie) Platt of Munster, Robin (Doug) Stellhorn of Russiaville; grandchildren, Ben, David, Brandon, Blake, Brooks, Brittany, and Blair; and great-grandchildren, Jude, and Maggie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mary Alice Overman. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 1811 Fairhill Road, with calling one hour prior, Pastor Christopher Joseph Kirwan officiating. Calling also from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Great Lakes Hospice and the Sterling House for their care and compassion. The family is in my prayers. Ms Platt was my kindergarten teacher in the 80s. Her love and compassion touched me at an early age. We need more teachers like her in this world. May God bless her soul
