WHEELER, PATSY "PAT," 72, left this world on March 5, 2011, after a long battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma since being diagnosed in 2004.

She was born January 23, 1939 in Irvington, KY to the late Wilbur "Bill" and Margaret Brashear Winn. Always the prankster and tomboy, yet ever the lady, she was quiet in her demeanor. Pat grew up and chose nursing for a career, attending Kentucky Baptist Hospital. She worked in obstetrics and geriatric medicine during her life, but primarily in psychiatric nursing. She had a long and wonderful career.

In addition to her work as a nurse, Pat and her husband of 50 years, Johnnie J. Wheeler; raised three children, Felicia Wheeler, John Wheeler and Joseph Wheeler. She was their rock and a wonderful mother and companion.

Pat is survived by her husband and children, Felicia and Joseph; as well as her siblings, Peggy Banks, Suzanne Roberts, Grayanne Jackson and Bennie Winn. In addition, Pat leaves two grandchildren who loved her very much, Grace and Ruby.

Visitation for Pat will be Thursday, March 10, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Her service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, 20111 at Highlands.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America.

Not sure what to say?

I was a classmate and roommate of Pat's at KBH, class of 1960, and have many wonderful memories of that time. I am thinking of all of you, Johnnie, Felicia, Joe, Peggy, Suzanne, Grayanne, Bennie, Grace and Ruby. My prayers are with you.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I enjoyed knowing Pat as a nurse at Our Lady of Peace. She was lots of fun and had a spunk all her own. May God bless you and your family. Janice Johnson, Louisville, KY.

Johnnie so sorry to hear about Pat. I know how much she meant to you. We have moved, 1013 Garden Pointe Pl. we would to see you someday. Same phone number. We send out love to you and your family. Malcolm & Joanne Bentley

Pat's Mother Margaret and my Mother Mollie were high school friends.
After Margret's death, Peg, Pat and Suzanne (the same age of my late Brother) spend summers with our family in Ireland IN.

Pat has been part of our family my whole life, like an unrelated cousin.
I feel blessed to have visited with and giggled with her when she was in the hospital.

I will sorely miss her.

I remember your family and visiting in Irvington Ky. I was a roommate and classmate of the KBH class of 1960. I am so thankful that I was able to visit with Pat twice in 2010. I will miss her and will be praying for all of her family. my heartfelt condolences are with you. Betty Tichenor Johnson

The family is in our thoughts and prayers. I was a member of the 1960 nursing class with Pat. It was great to see her at our 50th class reunion. I will always remember her dry sense of humor. She will keep them laughing in heaven. May God bless you all.

I was so sorry to hear of Pat's death. She was a wonderful person. I can remember when she was the 3-11 nursing supervisor at Our Lady of Peace back in the 70's. we always felt supported by her. often her humor kept a bad situation from being much worse. she was a dear friend and when we ran into one another, after she left Peace, at Krogers,we often spent more time talking than we did shopping. My deepest sympathy to the family. she will be greatly missed.

Our nursing class of 1960 has lost a great friend. I remember Pat as loving to laugh and make others laugh with her. Now,my first thoughts of Pat will always be that last day in the hospital when she would say something or say it in a tone she knew she shouldn't, and then look directly at Peggy to see her reaction! Priceless!!
My prayers are with Johnnie, Felicia and Joe during this time of their great loss, and to her sisters in theirs.

Pat was a wonderful person who has been my special friend for many years. She will be a shining star in heaven. My prayers are with her family.
