Ridge, Maryland
Jan 28, 1932 – Nov 14, 2021
Paul Franklin Barber, 89 of Ridge, Maryland was born on January 28, 1932 in Great Mills, Maryland. He was the son of the late Bernard Barber and Delia Ann Barnes Barber. Paul peacefully departed this life at The Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home on Sunday morning, November 14, 2021.
Paul was a longtime member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in St. Inigoes, MD for over 60 years. He could be counted on to maintain the church building and complete many tasks around the church. He attended many church meetings; participated in multiple planning committees and he served as a lector for many years. He took great pride in ensuring that the church grounds were well kept. He spent numerous hours volunteering to maintain the upkeep of the church by cutting the grass and helping set up for church events. He thoroughly enjoyed his St. Peter Claver Church family.
Paul graduated from Jarborsville High School in 1949. After graduating from high school, he went into the United States Army. Once Paul returned from the Army, he worked as a truck driver for Hewitt Lumber Company and various other companies. He later began working as a Warehouse Foreman in the Supply Department on the Patuxent River Naval Air Station where he retired in 1993 after 28 years of service. Paul enjoyed retirement for a bit before he decided to work as an STS Bus driver for the St. Mary's Transit System (STS). While driving the STS Bus, Paul enjoyed meeting new people and he absolutely loved talking to everyone.
After a while, Paul retired from the St. Mary's Transit System and in his spare time, he enjoyed maintaining his own lawn; took many road trips to see new places; he enjoyed watching wrestling and car racing. He also loved supporting and attending events at local churches in the area. One of his favorite events was attending the Martin Luther King Day Breakfast at St. Mary's College every January for years until he was unable to attend. He also enjoyed participating in parades in the community.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Delia Barber; his siblings, Joseph Barber, Margaret Young, Earl Barber and Agnes Nolan.
Paul leaves to cherish his loving memories his faithful and devoted wife of 64 years, Lucy Barber; three children, Donna Humphrey of Lusby, MD, Laverne Womack (Thomas) of Atlanta, Georgia, Paula Harris (Delwin) of Lexington Park, MD; five grandchildren, Dawntai Womack (Sherrell), Deshawn Womack, Jeremy Womack, Maya Harris and Jaiden Harris; one sister, Theresa Morgan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Family and friends will unite on Monday, November 22, 2021 for visitation at 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 16922 St Peter Claver Rd, St Inigoes, MD 20684. Interment will be at a later date at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.

After being home with my children for several years. Started to work again at Supply 1992, and Mr. Barber was my boss at the time. He was the most kind and respectful person I had every meet. May God's love give you strength during your time of sorrow.
