Paul Edward Brown, 89, of Logan, went to be with his Savior on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Carlin House, Logan, with his loving wife by his side. He passed away from complications of Lewy Body Dementia. Born January 5, 1936 in Athens County, he was the son of the late Walter A. Brown and Alice Mingus Brown.
A 1954 graduate of Ames-Bern High School, his first job was with Ferd Hack Auto Supply in Athens. He and his brother, Harold owned and operated The Little Giant Grocery Store on The Plains, and then he and his brothers, Harold and Bob, in 1970, purchased the Ferd Hack Auto Supply Stores in Logan, Athens, Nelsonville, McArthur and Glouster, selling the stores in 1999.
He was a former member of the Ames-Bern Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Hocking Hills Church of Christ. He was a 50 year member of Amesville Lodge 278 F&AM and a 50 year member of Athens Chapter 175 OES. He was a resident of Logan since 1973 where he served on the Logan Hocking Chamber of Commerce (Board of Directors 1987-1989) and was an advisor with the Tri-County JVS.
Paul enjoyed Ohio State and Ohio University sports and played city league softball and basketball in both Athens and Logan. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren playing various sports. Paul and Pat enjoyed dancing with “Country Dancing Fools” and traveling in their motorhome. Paul served with the Ohio Army National Guard, Headquarters 2nd Battalion, 166th RCT for eight years. His rank was Specialist E-5.
Paul is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia Linscott Brown; his daughter, Paula (Randy) Wahl of Logan; his son, Tim (Phyllis) Brown of Logan; three grandchildren, Jearamy (Tiffany) Klinger, Jessica (Shawn) Hallas and Justin (Devinn) Wahl; five great grandchildren, Austin & Issac Tigner, Harper & Jameson Klinger and Kennedy Wahl; two step great grandchildren, Trinity (Skylar) Lind and Micah Hallas; three step great, great grandchildren, Ezmay, Axl and Ivrie; a special cousin, Joann Pedigo; a special friend, Clayton Tigner; several sisters in law and brothers in law, Mary Ann (LaVerne) Winland, Karen (Larry) Dean, Linda (Pete) Hart, Don (Cathy) Linscott, and Lori Linscott; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents, he is preceded in death by his father and mother in law, Edward & Eileen Linscott; grandchild, Curtis Hartshorn; sister and brother in law, Anna Mae & Bill James; brothers and sisters in law, Walter “Bob” & Doris Brown and Harold & Marilyn Brown; two brothers in law, David Linscott and Paul Kilzer; and his longtime pet companion, Beau.
A memorial service will be held May 3, 2025 at the Hocking Hills Church of Christ, 28290 Chieftain Dr., Logan, at 12:00 noon with Evangelist Kelly Zirkle. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. A Celebration of Life will follow the service in the church fellowship.
