Not sure what to say?

I am grateful to Paul Spencer Byard and to all who loved and supported him in life. His eloquent voice rings in my memory and continues to inspire me in countless ways. Thank you, Paul.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Paul Byard's death today. In his many roles -- architect, professor, writer, leader of the Architectural League, etc. -- he contributed to his profession and city. I saw him only several weeks ago and he was as spry and elegant as ever. I had no idea he was ill, which leaves me even more stunned by his death.

New York has lost a true son.

Professor Byard is fondly remembered as our own, more urbane version of the Paper Chase's Charles Kingfield. To this day, I remember the unique permutation of delight and sheer terror that would come over most of us when asked to answer a question in his classes. He will be missed.

I called him the "charmer" or the "charming Professor". Nothing could come between him and his passion for architecture; it's conservation - was his goal in life!
