Doing It Himself

Paul S. Gilbey was "a very, very keen D.I.Y. man," as in do-it-yourself, said his wife, Deena.

"He'd be coming home, and he would call me on the cell phone and say, `Dee, set up the paint,' " she recalled. "He'd always involve the kids in it. I don't know how he had the patience to do it all, but he always did." That patience played out on the ski slopes, too, where he would ski all day with a 3-year-old between his knees. His son Max is now 7, and Mason is 4.

"He loved those twin towers, he loved them," his wife said. Mr. Gilbey, 39, would leave his home in Chatham, N.J., at 4:30 a.m., so he could visit the gym before starting his job as an assistant vice president at Euro Brokers. "He would say to me, `Every morning I drive over the Pulaski Skyway, I see those towers and I quiver, they're just so magnificent,' " Mrs. Gilbey said. "In an ironic sort of way, he died doing a job he loved in the towers he loved."

Happy heavenly birthday Daisy. Miss you!

Remembering my friend and colleague "Daisy" on this tragic day. An extraordinary person-kind, full of positive énergie and always wearing a big smile that brightened the lives of those around him. What a heartbreaking waste . Your memory lives on, rest in peace, my friend.
