Paul Edmund Hogg

Paul E. Hogg, 94, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at Oakdale Assisted Living Center in Poplar Bluff. Mr. Hogg was born May 14, 1919 in Poplar Bluff to the late John E. and Carrie Nance Hogg. He was a member of First Christian Church of Poplar Bluff and had retired as Butler County Collector after many years of service. Mr. Hogg proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. During his earlier years he enjoyed playing golf and refereeing high school sporting events. Mr. Hogg also enjoyed gardening and flowers. On April 14, 1940, he married Mary Helen Sanders at the First Christian Church in Poplar Bluff. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons: Paul Daniel Hogg (Marissa) and James Roger Hogg, all of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Medford Hogg (Mae) of Baton Rouge, La. A sister, Emma Sue Myrant and a brother, Raymond "Piggy" Hogg also preceded Mr. Hogg in death. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church with his grandson, Jacob Hogg officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Woodlawn section of the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to the Northside Nutrition Center, 1450 Garfield St., Poplar Bluff, MO 63901.
