TAZEWELL — Mr. Paul Johnson, age 76, of Tazewell, TN. was born December 21, 1941 and passed to heavenly peace, joy and happiness on June 9, 2018.
Paul was saved as a boy at the Church of God in Middlesboro, Ky. In 1990, he was baptized into Goins Chapel Baptist Church in Tazewell, TN. Paul graduated from Claiborne County High School in 1959. He was an outstanding basketball and baseball player. Paul helped organize and was a lifetime member of the Claiborne County Historical Society. He is the author of Claiborne County Cemeteries, published in 1982. Paul worked for the Big Four Supermarket and the New Tazewell Dry Cleaners. He was employed for more than 40 years at Jeffery Chain of Morristown, TN.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Helen Turner Johnson, an infant brother, Tony and sister, Shirley Snow.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ruth Day Johnson son, Steven and Barbara Hall Johnson; grandson, Brenston Johnson; and great grandchildren Ethan, Eli and McKinley. Paul's sisters are Eleanor Campbell, Peggy and Roy Payne, Teresa and John Lowe, and Vickie and Mark Gibson. Brothers are Earl and Glenda Johnson, Van and Carol Johnson, Roger and Diane Johnson, and Mike and Stella Johnson. Paul leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Paul's family would like to express much thanks to the Amedisys Hospice Staff: Abby, Martha, Garland and Dr. DeBusk.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Coffey Funeral Home Chapel with funeral service to follow at 7:00PM. Ministers: Rev. Jack Day, Rev. Kenny Clark and Garland Long. Singer will be Jean Roark and the Goins Chapel Church Choir. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Moody Cemetery. Pallbearers: David Snow, Jamie Snow, Jason Campbell, Shane Campbell, Lucas Johnson and Lance Johnson. Honorary pallbearers: Charles Yeary, Warren Warrren, Marty Lamb and Brian Campbell.
