(I wrote a Message - I don't see it yet...)

Oh, this is such sad news. I knew Paul because I was good friends with his beloved wife, Judith Ann Bailen - one of my best friends from childhood. I remember when Judy moved into the neighborhood - Oak Hill in Newton, Massachusetts - in the fourth grade. We immediately became good friends and were still good friends, right up to the end. I was so happy to see how Judy and Paul had a solid marriage and a happy family life with their three busy, active children - all in a beautiful home in Wellesley. I visited them (I had moved to New York City) a few years before Judy got sick - in the 1980's. I still miss Judy so often and wish she were here so we could reminisce together about life growing up in Newton - Oak Hill school, playing together after school, riding our bikes, doing homework together, reading Seventeen Magazine, giggling - so many things. I liked Paul a great deal. We sat up late one night talking, that time that I visited with them, and I got to know him a bit and saw what a good man and what a smart, knowledgeable, caring person he was. We had fun talking. We spoke once or twice after Judy died (in 1986, August, I believe it was, that she died after a brutal illness.) That was such a sad, dreadful event - just stunning for everyone who knew Judy. Stanetsky Funeral Home was Sanding Room Only during her funeral. Judy was such a bright, active, positive person - I can only imagine how devastating the loss of her must have been for Paul. What a terrible thing! - and for the children, too - of course - beyond words.
I send my deepest sympathy to the now-grown children and their spouses and their children - the grandchildren. I'm so glad they've got so many kids! That's a blessing right there - and surely a tremendous comfort.
But I'm very sad. The world - and the family - and the whole community of friends - have lost a very good, kind, special man...
