Dr. Kucera and his team at OHSU saved my life in the 80´s. I was diagnosed with cancer and required more than 6 hours of surgery including reconstruction surgery and was hospitalized for almost 2 weeks. Dr. Kucera came to my room every morning to check in my progress and make certain that I was in no discomfort. He was a favorite with me. I was then and am now, 40 years later, deeply appreciative of his talent, skill, and concern. He was not only an extremely gifted doctor he was also...

I am so sad to learn that Dr Kucera passed. I was a patient during his time at OHSU. He led the surgical team that saved my life. Dr Kucera would come by every morning on his rounds with a full team of students and every day I would ask, "Can I go home now?" His answer as a resounding , "No" until one morning10 days later when he actually smiled at me and said, "I´ve never let a patient who has had a surgery this extensive out of the hospital in less than two weeks. Congratulations,...

I am a retired gynecologist and I had the opportunity to refer patients to Dr. Kucera. We expect our physicians to be technically superb and Paul was certainly that but he had another quality that made him special, he cared deeply for his patients. I did not know him personally but I will miss him anyhow. William Lasersohn, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

To the family of Dr. Paul Kucera,
It has taken time for me to be able to put into words how much Paul impacted my life. Without him, I don't think I would be where I am in my career. He believed in me and trusted that I was the person I am and stood up for me when others would not. He took tremendous care of my patients, came in at 4 am to help with a long case knowing he still had clinic in the morning and was always available for me to ask a question. And more importantly, he...

Dear Family of Dr. Paul Kucera,
I trained in OB/Gyn at UC Irvine in '95 when I first starting hearing about Dr. Paul Kucera. He was famous there as being the first fellow of Dr. Phillip DiSaia. We moved to Portland and I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Paul. I had heard Paul Kucera was demanding to work with. When I finally met him, I found an individual full of compassion and extremely easy to work with. He was always available to share his expertise. Most impressive was...

To Paul's family: I wouild like to add my thanks for the hardships you all endured while he pursued his calling with vigor, wild enthusiasm, and absolute commitment. He spoke of you all often, so I'm sure you know that just because he wasn't physically present all the time, you were in his thoughts.
He was an incredible surgeon, teacher, mentor, and a fast friend. He made me a surgeon; he dispelled my fears and fed my confidence. His avid interest in so many disparate areas...
