PAUL MACAVOY

I remember Paul warmly from the many happy dinners we shared in Vermont and for the courage he showed in standing up to the president of the University of Rochester.

To the MacAvoy family: today was another day that I remembered Professor MacAvoy. I never got a chance to take his class at the Yale School of Management, and only got to know him after I had received my MBA in 2002. It was a horrible year for new MBA graduates, since the economy was in recession, and there were no jobs for new graduates. Paul took me under his wing, and allowed me to do research for him (I am not sure how much value I brought, and I realize that it was very kind of him...

Paul was a great man - a skillful administrator and a fine colleague during the days we served together as fellow deans at the University of Rochester. Carol and I have been friends with Paul and Kay ever after.

Paul was one of my professors when I was a student as SOM from '94-'96. I was also one of the students he hired as a researcher.

Paul gave freely and generously of his time to discuss and debate politics, economics and history. I am a Canadian and I had a sense that Paul took special delight in sparring with Canadians (as well as Democrats) about our perspective on economics and public policy.

Dear Libby, Sincere condolences to you and your family.

To the MacAvoy family: I just learned through the SOM alumni newsletter about Paul's death earlier in February. My sincere sympathy to all his family and friends. He was one of my favorite professor's at Yale, inspiring me to try harder in Economics and continue on in the course on Regulation -- what a course with Paul and Lloyd Cutler. Prof Macavoy was an inspirational teacher and a thought leader in telecommunications. As a teacher, he had a strong connection with his students. I am saddened by his passing. My condolences to his family.

To the Macavoy family. I was saddened to hear of Paul's passing. I enjoyed our chats when driving him and Kay to the airport. He had a remarkable career, a very accomplished man. Rest In Peace Mr. Macavoy.
