Paul Joseph Madden Devoted husband, loving father of five and proud grandfather of thirteen, Paul Joseph Madden passed away at home on Friday, August 1, surrounded by his wife and children. Paul was born in Portland, Oregon on October 13, 1922 to Lawrence and Mary Madden. He attended Portland University until called into the United States Navy in World War II where he served as a photographer for four years in Europe. After the war, he owned a wholesale distributership for books and magazines in Corvallis Oregon. In June of 1951 he married Mary Esther Schatz and together they raised five children: Catherine (Stephen) Mary Jo (Mike) Lawrence (Connie) Julie (Bob) and David (Melanie). The family moved to San Rafael, California where Paul worked as a circulation supervisor for the San Francisco Newspaper Agency. He retired in 1987 and devoted himself to volunteer work. He worked for AARP as State Housing Coordinator, served on the Grand Jury for Marin County, volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and worked as a volunteer at Nazareth House. He is remembered for his unfailing love, kindness and humor. Even in his final illness, he retained his humor and his care and interest in others. His deep and abiding love for his wife of 63 years, Mary Esther, was the cornerstone of his life. Paul was an active parishioner of St. Isabella's Catholic Church for 47 years. The funeral mass and service will be held at St. Isabella's on Friday, August 8th at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul or The Nazareth House. Not sure what to say?

Your Dad was a great man. My dad worked for the paper also. And every day we would drop a paper off @ your house, Sundays we would porch it. I can still here his booming voice saying hi Johnny.

The lord is spoiled to have such a great man by his side.
