I was a classmate of Paul's from Immaculate Conception elementary in Malden. I remember him as a good kid who always wanted to be a police officer. I'm sure he was well respected by his family, friends and fellow troopers.
My condolences to his family.

Dear Janice and children, our heartfelt condolences go out to you and your entire extended family. Words are so inadequate at a time like this, so please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this painful time.
Paul was a good man and a good officer. We were classmates at the Metro Police Academy and worked together at "The Hills". My husband knew him from the streets. Paul will be missed.

Dear Janice and kids, and the entire McCarthy family: Janice has been one of my best friends since we were 5. We grew up together, were in each other's weddings, and despite address and life changes, we have remained friends. Paul was a very special person. He loved his children with all his heart. He was a devoted husband. He was the epitome of a gentleman. Paul endured so much since his first accident on the force, and then again his second. Despite it all, he rose to Captain,...

Paul never changed from the day I met him over a decade ago, he always did what he thought was right never wavering from outside pressures. Whenever I would call him for help, he would do exactly that, help. Sleep now my friend and be comforted that we will watch over your family here.

Janice, Paul Jr., Shannon and Chris...how devastated and shocked I was to read about the passing of your husband/father. Paul was a great man...one to be truly admired for his role as husband, father and provider.

Janice, we were devastated and so sorry to hear of yours and the kids loss. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help at this time or ever. For those of you who may not know, Captain McCarthy saved mine and my twin sons lives on the day they were born, November 3, 2004. On that day, I began having life threatening complications while attempting to get to the hospital in Boston. Traffic was at a standstill on Rt 93 from Boston to Woburn due to a major accident during the...
