Weber City, VA – Paul W. McMurray – age 89
Paul W. McMurray, 89 of Weber City, VA went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief period of declining health. He was the son of the late Chester and Goldie Castle McMurray, he was a U.S. Army Veteran and was retired from Holston Defense. Paul loved sports and young people. He coached basketball at the Boys Club, church league girls softball and Gate City Little League. He was a life long fan of the New York Yankees. Paul followed Virginia Tech Football and Gate City Sports. He attended Gateway Baptist Church (formerly 1st Baptist Church of Weber City). He also enjoyed Bluegrass music. His true passion was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jearlene Eads McMurray; brothers, J.D. McMurray and Dewey McMurray.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Juanita Cheek McMurray; daughter, Paula (Gail) McMurray Scheffers (Shawn); sons, Marty McMurray and Allen Cheek (Vanessa); grandchildren, Whitney Hope Johnson (Keith), Tyler McMurray, Tanner McMurray and John Cheek; great grandchildren, Hayden Black, Eathan McMurray, Olivia Johnson and Jackson Johnson; brother, Fred McMurray (Linda); several nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of your choosing.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jeff DeBoard officiating. Music will be provided by the Potters. Pallbearers will be Mark McGlothlin, Brian McMurray, Tyler McMurray, Tanner McMurray, John Cheek and Hayden Black. Honorary Pallbearer will be Eathan McMurray. Interment will follow at Holston View Cemetery.
