Paul Allan Moyer, 93, of Grinnell died Sunday, March 17, 2024, at his home in Grinnell.
A Celebration Gathering will be held from 4-7 pm, Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Cox-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be 10 am, Friday at Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made directed to the family and sent in care of Cox-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, PO Box 163, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Allan was born on September 20, 1930, to John and Mildred (Strong) Moyer at the family home in Tama County, in Iowa. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1948. Allan served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning to Iowa he worked doing road construction, he worked at Farm Hand, Donaldson’s, drove school buses for several years while also farming. He was married to Patricia Ann Tighe in Iowa City on April 1, 1958, sadly Patricia passed away in 1973. On February 27, 1976, Allan married Shirley Cook. They made their home at the Westfield farm in Grinnell.
Allan could build or fix anything; his true love was farming. He also enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He loved all his grandkids and having local elementary school kids come out to visit Westfield Farms, riding the ponies and petting the animals. He was also a true Hawkeye fan, never missing a game on TV.
Allan will be greatly missed by his wife, Shirley of Grinnell; children, Mike Meier, Brenda (Chris) Livengood and Tim Moyer; step-children, Cindy (Ed) Heck and Burt (Brenda) Selle; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; siblings, Dean Moyer, Harold "Peewee" (Bev) Moyer, Tootie Gilliland, Mary (John) Schmidt, Joyce Lincoln and sister-in-law, Marcella Moyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Patricia in 1973; grandson, Mikey Meier; and step-grandson, Jason Heck; and siblings, Arlene (Harold "Skip") Pierce, Jim (Mildred) Moyer, Bob (Eunice) Moyer, Frank Moyer, Maxine (Keith) Osborn, Roger (Hoan) Moyer; brothers-in-law, John Gilliland and Gary Lincoln; and sister-in-law, Priscilla Moyer.
