Not sure what to say?

Sorry to hear of Paul's passing. He and Sylvia were old and good friends of my parents from the University of Iowa, Sven and Kathleen Armens. I played in softball games with him and other members of the English Department and Writer's Workshop at the Union field in Iowa City. Sincerely, Karl Armens, Iowa City.

Paul was a gifted teacher and poet, and will be missed.

This was such sad news . . . RIP Professor Petrie . . you were one of the best teachers I had at URI . . . you gave so much to all of us.

Condolences to Sylvia and family

Dad, I've been listening a lot lately to Elgar, Bruckner, and yes even Brahms. Somehow your passing has brought me closer to the late Romantics. And I just finished Henry James' The Spoils of Poynton. Your passion for the arts is just one of your legacies to me for which I am profoundly grateful. I love you and miss you!!!

Paul: you are never far from my thoughts. As you remembered me, and my father, so I remember you. Thank you for reading my work and encouraging me -- and most of all for your own poems, your incredible kindness, and the example you provided. We are all with you in the "academy of good-bye."

I love you Gramp. You're always with us

You will keep on living in our hearts and through your poems.
