Obituary

QUINTON, Paul Snowden April 20, 1926 – August 13, 2013 Peacefully on Tuesday August 13, 2013, at the age of 87, Paul passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side. He was predeceased by his parents Sidney Quinton and Ellen (Snowden) Quinton. Paul leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 62 years Hazel, his son Jeffrey Quinton and his wife Susan and their children Jason and Amy, his daughter Janet Skelly and her husband Bill Skelly and their children Lauren and Kristen, his son John Quinton and his wife Jane and their children Annie and Laura, and his daughter JoAnne Quinton. Paul is also survived by his sister Mary Hurst and his brother Richard Quinton and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Paul was born in Winnipeg and was educated at Windsor School, St. John's College School, United College and the University of Manitoba. Following service in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII he returned to the family business Quinton's Cleaners and Launderers where he served as President until his retirement in 1987. Paul and Hazel raised their family on Kingston Row in St. Vital and summered at Victoria Beach. In retirement, they relocated to Carlyle Bay on their golf club in Westwood and then ventured west ten years ago to Arbutus Ridge on Vancouver Island. They returned home to Winnipeg a year ago to reside at the Canoe Club on the site where they met 65 years ago. Paul was an athlete, enjoying competitive paddling in his younger years and golf up to the time his Alzheimers advanced. Paul served his community with pleasure and vigour. A member of numerous boards, charities and business organizations, of particular import was his service to the Winnipeg Canoe Club serving as Commodore in 1954, the Winnipeg Kiwanis Club and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He served on the Bomber Board for 15 years, sitting as president in 1970/1971. In 1993 he was inducted into the Bombers Hall of Fame in the Builder category. Paul was a man of faith and he and Hazel were members of St. Marks Anglican Church in St Vital, St. Andrews, Woodhaven, and St. John the Baptist in Cobble Hill, BC. Upon returning to Winnipeg a year ago, re-joining the community at St. Marks was an important component of their lives. In the past year as Paul's health deteriorated, the Staff and residents at the Canoe Club and his team of caregivers played an enormous role in providing support to Hazel and comfort to Paul. Sincere thanks to Dr. Roy Smith, Lolita Keith, the Angels from Tina's Tender Loving Care, Homecare Manitoba, and Dr. Pravin Mehta and the staff at St Boniface Hospital in his final week. Paul, a.k.a. Paulsie, Papa, Punk, P.Q. loved life and lived life. He was a great Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Friend, Employer, and Citizen. He will be missed! A celebration of Paul's life will take place on Tuesday August 20, 2013 at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 130 Nassau St, North at 1pm. Reception to follow. A private burial has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please consider the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba or the Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba.

Not sure what to say?

We will remember Paul as one of our all-time favorite clients. He was quite a charming character and we enjoyed his twinkle and sense of humor.
