PAUL JAMES RAINE ~~ LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER, and FRIEND age 53, died on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in Madison Heights, Michigan. He was born on June 20, 1957 in Highland Park, Michigan to William J. and Joyce Hall Raine. He had been a resident of Troy, Michigan for 20 years, having grown up in Clawson Education: Mr. Raine graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy Law School, and was admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan in 1997. Occupation: attorney and college professor Paul was a Michigan attorney with an extensive background in technology, and several years experience handling civil litigation and resolving mortgage foreclosure issues. He held technology related positions at Sprint Broadband Wireless, Charter Communications, the University of Michigan – Merit Network, Inc., Computer Sciences Corporation and the General Motors Research Laboratories. He was an adjunct professor of Computer and Internet Law at the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law. He taught undergraduate and MBA level courses in Leadership and Ethics as an adjunct professor at Walsh College in Troy, Michigan. He also taught Business Law at the undergraduate and MBA levels at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. He loved the education field, teaching, and his students as well. Paul was a facilitator for the "Investment in Excellence" personal growth and human potential course through The Pacific Institute in Seattle, Washington. Personal growth was extremely important to him and he loved to share that knowledge with others. Paul served on the State Bar Representative Assembly, the Standing Committee on Professional Ethics, and the Standing Committee on Technology. He was the past Chair of the Computer Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the Standing Committee on Technology. Paul was the co-founder and past president of the Greater Detroit Free-Net. While working full time and attending law school in the evening 4 nights a week, he launched a free community based Internet service known as the Greater Detroit Free-Net. The non-profit organization, formed in 1992, was run by volunteers and financed through donations. During its peak in 1994, the "GDFN" had over 9, 000 registered users, and was one of Detroit's first on-ramps to the Information Superhighway. Paul was a loving Husband, Dad and kind friend to everyone he met. There was nothing more important to him than his son Bradley. Bradley was his heart. He was so deeply proud of Brad and excited that he would be entering the University of Michigan's Honors College in a month. He loved to travel the world and did so extensively for many years. He believed that the world is a book and he who stays at home reads only one page. He was a man of high integrity and professional and personal ethics. Surviving Wife of almost 32 years: Beverly Jean (nee: Serre). Their wedding anniversary was right around the corner, having married August 12, 1978. I had the opportunity to work with Paul, and know his kindness. I am so saddened by this news, and my heart goes out to you. I am so very sorry for your loss, and will be praying for your family. May you experience love and peace at this most difficult time.

I am shocked and saddened at Paul's passing. I had several opportunities to work with Paul and respected him greatly. He will be missed.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my childhood next-door neighbor. I have such lovely memories of Paul. The entire Raine family is in my thoughts and prayers.
