Not sure what to say?

It was with much trepidation that I made my way "upstairs" to the 4th grade classroom of Mr. Smith. This was my first experience with a male teacher and what an experience it was. Mr. Smith was the one of the kindest individuals I have known. His empathy and respect for his students provided invaluable life lessons. He also was a remarkable educator...I can still rattle off my multiplication tables in record time. Mr.Smith made a tremendous impact on my life...I feel very fortunate that I...

Mr. Smith was Principal at Stephenson when we moved to Portland in 1968. He taught 6th grade afternoon and I believe my older brother had him as a teacher in that grade, but Mr. Smith left Stephenson before I went into 6th. I got to know his first wife, Janet, very well when I took 3 years of Journalism at Wilson HS. They were both very fine people and dedicated Educators, and all of us who had them as teachers were very fortunate. Many people my age talk very fondly about the "Greatest...

My dad ran across Paul Smith's obit in the Oregonian. I was a 6th grade student of Mr. Smith's at Stephenson Elem, when he taught half-day, while also being our principal. I started the year off feeling anxious and a bit displaced since my friends had been assigned a different 6th grade teacher. My fears soon dissipated. Mr. Smith was awesome- fun, kind, compassionate, and challenged us academically as well. I can still hear him applauding us in our efforts to learn to play volleyball, and...

I will always remember and be grateful for one small lesson Principal Smith taught our classroom at Multnomah School. He guided us how to correctly spell principle/principal by reminding us that the one in his role was always your "pal." I think of him and that favor he left us with every time I write or type one of those two words. Thank you Princi-pal Smith. And thank you also for having served our country under arms in Korea.

Paul Smith was an outstanding administrator and served as my mentor and role-model as I pursued a career in administration. I learned so much from him. He was a gregarious, out-going individual and a highly skilled, efficient principal. What I remember most is his love for his school and students. He faced each day with a cheerful, positive "can-do" attitude that permeated to the students and staff. I will always have fond memories of our time togethet at Alameda and Beaumont.

Mr. Smith was my 4th grade teacher at Glenhaven. Just back from the Korean War, we saw many his slides of Korea. Mr. Smith was a stickler on penmanship and caring disciplinarian. He was also the first male teacher and role model for me as a future life-long educator.

We are saddened to hear of Pauls passing. he was a special friend of our family. We shared many fun times with he and Janet, as neighbors. Our thought and prayers are with the family. Ethelmae (Kipp) Hammock, Gail

"Mr.Smith" was my 6th grade teacher at Glenhaven Elementary .He was the first "poet that I remember. He would surprise us at the end of the day with a personal poem he wrote for one of us. I still remember the first part of one of the poems he wrote for me. (Peggy told a story, It sounded oh so sad. She could not believe that things could be so bad.) Because of this wonderful teacher, I went on to become an elementary teacher myself.
