Dr. Stanton was a man of strong faith. He was a long time member Of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Virgil Anderson Class. He gave a memorable lesson one Easter on How Christ Didd on the Cross. He read Bible passages and explained medically the agony of His death. This lesson was repeated many times to other Churches in the area.

If every former ETSU Presideden was rated Dr.Stanton would be rated as the best they ever had.He possesed good old Common Sense, something very rare these days. My heart goes out to the family. He will be missed by not only them but all who truly knew him. The world is just a little bit better place due to his having lived.

Dr Stanton was not only President Emeritus at ETSU, he was also an incredible father! One of my fondest memories is meeting him in a restaurant parking lot for a dolly swap between his daughter, Shelley, and my daughter, Garner Lee. He pulled out so much dolly paraphernalia to go with Shelley´s baby doll it made us all break out in belly laughs. He will be missed by many!

Dr Stanton was a giant of a man and surgeon. He was highly respected, had a soft tone, was always patient and was a gifted surgeon. I had the pleasure of being one of his residents at ETSU. I know he will be missed by his family and community. Rest in peace, Dr Stanton!

Dr. Stanton saved my life in more ways than one. He didn´t give up on me and the life I have today is a direct result of the love, compassion and mentorship I received from Dr. Stanton. I will always love him and the world became a little sadder place on March 5. Thanks Dr. Stanton.
