Not sure what to say?

I just came across this as I was thinking back to my undergrad years at Cornell. I'm so sorry to hear of Prof. Steen's passing. I was a ChemE undergraduate student of his in the 90's and I remember him fondly as a kind, intelligent, soft-spoken teacher in the ChemE department. A terrible loss for all.

Oh, so very sorry to learn this Kyra, I am so out of date. I did one of those "hope an old friend is doing well" searches this evening. I can see your husband Paul was so well accomplished in his profession, what a notable career. But I am sure you and your family was the prize of his life. Carol and I extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family and friends. (don't feel bad if you hardly remember me from the 1980s here in the Lehigh Valley, I was pretty much a yutz back then, still am...

Dear Paul,
You are too young to leave this world. I had in mind that we would grow old together. I thought we would trade tips on how to best spoil our grandchildren, and continue to drool over Mercedes 250SLs and Porsche 911s late into our 90s. I thought we would meet at places around the world to take hikes, and spend hours figuring out what to eat. I thought we would catch up from time to time, and talk about books, movies and academic gossip. Your leaving unexpectedly is both...

Kyra, I'm so very sorry to learn of Paul's passing. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this very difficult time.

Kyra-so sorry to hear about Paul's death. My thoughts are with you and your family during your time of grief. I remember riding with him on Sat rides a couple of times so long ago.

Paul was visiting us in Switzerland and it was a pleasure to discussed and exchanged with him. He brings me further on the melt spinning research.

Paul was a wonderful classmate and friend at WRA. Always calm, kind and cheerful, and unusually able. A very special person.

I was Paul's sophomore roommate at WRA. A great, great guy. My favorite memory of him was when I bet Paul that sophomore year that he could not run a 2 miler in under 12:00. Sure enough, we went to the track and Paul shocked me by doing it. I understood then his extreme determination and quiet athletic ability.

I tried to reconnect with Paul about 5 years ago and Paul said he would try to stop in on a visit to Northwestern University here in my town of Evanston. Unfortunately...

I remember Paul fondly as a classmate at WRA. My condolences to Paul's family.
