Paul Wesly Taylor, Jr., was born April 9, 1943, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the only son of Paul W. Taylor, Sr. and Estelle Hawkins Taylor. He has two sisters, Parthenia Andy of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Shirley Ann Burrell of Kansas City, Missouri.

Paul attended Dunbar Nursery in Tulsa and Booker T. Washington, later renamed Charles S. Johnson Elementary School in Tulsa. The family moved to Kansas City, MO., in 1951. Paul attended Banneker, Attucks, R.T. Cole, and was a proud member of the Manual High School class of 1961.

Late in their senior year, Paul and his best friend Nathaniel Brown enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After graduation, they began 4 years active duty and were honorably discharged in 1965. While in the Marine Corps, Paul married Gloria Dean Obie. Paul, Jr. is their only son.

After his discharge Paul worked several jobs. He was a welder and a bartender. He worked for the United States Postal Service and Ford Motor Company. Paul returned to the U. S. Postal Service and retired in 2005.

Paul is a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. He married Carol McCormick Crook at Friendship on July 21, 1988. Carol, whom he called “My Prom Date”, proceeded him in death. Paul was a member of Sunday School Class #3, the New Members Ministry, and Senior Activities. He studied the bible every day without fail.

Both parents and his sister, Parthenia Andy, preceded him in death.

Paul is survived by his son; sisters; nieces, Carol Cargo, whom he called “Mother Lamonica Burrell,” and called “WGN” (The World’s Greatest Niece); 16 grandchildren; and a host of great-great- great nieces and nephews; 1 sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Bryant; 1 great grandson, Clifford; 3 daughters of love, Karen (Tony) Pickins, Sharon (Edward) Burnette, and Toi Obie.

So sorry for your loss.
I was in Sunday school class #3 with Paul.
He was always ready for the lesson.
Praying for the family.

My condolences to the family of Paul Taylor, Jr . I have known Paul for some years now, having worked with him at the Post Office and then fellowshipping with him at Friendship. As everyone know, Paul called to check on those who were ill while being ill himself. Well done Good and Faithful Servant.
