Not sure what to say?

Eleven years and I am still thinking about and missing this man who was so influential in educating me and helping me on the path to manhood. All Math Geeks. like me, stand in his honor!

It is so hard to believe that Mr. Troy has already been gone 10 years. 57 years since Trig/College Algebra. Seems like just last week. We miss him so much.

I am happy to be in the long line of former students that count Mr. Troy as a favorite teacher. After reading the comments already posted I also remembered his pipe smoking. He always had that quiet, but imposing demeanor. I credit him with my straight A's in college calculus.

I was blessed to visit with Mr. Troy in 2005 at the now famous "Last Blast Reunion" picnic. When assisting him to Alice's van I told him that, after college, I would get out my math textbooks and use them...

Mr. Troy was certainly the most influential teacher our family had at OHS. My brother Al ('66), retired civil engineer, tutors math. My sister Sheryl ('68) teaches math, and I used a BA in Math as a stepping stone to a career in medical librarianship.

My fondest memory, besides the extremely challenging exams, was the short story he read the last week of our senior year about animals traveling across Canada. It was a touching counterpoint to the turbulent times of 1966.

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Troy's passing. Mrs. Troy was my piano teacher and Mr. Troy was my math teacher. About two years ago I went to a retired teachers meeting and I am glad I went, I got to talk to each of them. I realized they were in their 90s but so alert, after all these years, they remembered who I was. My sympathy to the family.

Mr. Try was the most influential teacher I ever had. He spirited my interest in math that made possible many of the career paths I’ve been able to follow.

Two things I remember fondly about Mr. Troy. His grade scale made 40% a passing grade (didn’t matter that 40% was difficult to get) and he could make a perfect circle on the chalk board (remember how he did it?).

Hard to believe he was 94. Hard to believe I’m almost 63. Hard to believe it's been 45 years since...

I grew up with Mr. and Mrs. Troy in the Methodist Church in Oceanside. They encouraged my singing and love of music. Their son John and I sang in the choir every Sunday. During prayers John would wiggle his ears and make me laugh. Mrs. Troy would give me a look with a smile. I will always remember them fondly.

Mr. Troy was a significant influence on many of us. His enthusiasm for the challenging subjects of trigonometry and advanced algebra and his patience in explaining complex subjects made his classes both fun and time well spent. I also recall his superior penmanship and the neatness of his calculations on the blackboard. There was a mutual admiration relationship between OHS students and this fine gentleman. He will be fondly remembered at our OHS Class of 1970 forty year reunion this...

My condolences and prayers for his family. I was in his class at OHS and graduated in 1960.
