Pauline Anna Hagen
February 11, 1933 - April 25, 2025
Modesto, California - Pauline Anna (Pauli) Cosentino Hagen, 92, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025, at Casa de Modesto from natural causes. She was born on February 11, 1933, in Gustine, CA to Vincenzo James and Maria Francesca (Frangelli) Cosentino, Italian immigrants who settled in the Central Valley of California. Pauli was one of 13 children.
She is preceded in death by her siblings Pat Cosentino, Nick Cosentino, Sue Cosentino, Henry Cosentino, Teri Cosentino, Rose Casteel, Herman Cosentino, Tony Cosentino, Arthur Cosentino, Alfred Cosentino, Delma Summers, Jean Cosentino and two nieces Joni Casteel Cowdin and Janine Casteel Ceci and her former spouse, La Verne Streeter.
She is survived by her son Arthur Streeter (Linda), and daughters, Shelly Streeter Peterson (Brad), Claudia Streeter-Bellani (Gary), and Paula Streeter Gabriola (Jo Parker), 10 Grandchildren: Andrea Ortegon (David), Allison Streeter (Tim Redfearn), Greg Streeter (Sheila Selleroli), Ben Peterson (Sarah), Nick Peterson (Marlena Jacobsen), Bradley Peterson (Katie), Forrest Alcamo (Kat Manders), Francesca Thorne (John), Cory Gabriola, and Paul Gabriola and 18 Great-grandchildren.
Pauli was a bright, talented, and determined student who excelled at Gustine High School. Her passion for education led her to earn a bachelor's degree in education from San Francisco State University-all while raising four children, a remarkable testament to her dedication and resilience.
She devoted over three decades to shaping young minds as a beloved kindergarten teacher in the Modesto City School District. Even after retiring, her love for teaching continued as she served as a substitute teacher until the age of 79. Pauli was also a proud member of the Omega Nu Sorority, where she formed lifelong friendships and continued her commitment to community service.
Throughout her career, she taught at several schools, including Fairview, Robertson Road, Brett Hart, Washington, Garrison, Enslen, Fremont, Keyes, and Livingston Elementary. In 1972, she studied the British Infant School system and played a key role in introducing the innovative "Open Plan Method" of education at Fremont Elementary School.
A strong advocate for early childhood education, Pauli championed the "Head Start" program, deeply understanding its impact through her own research and experience. Her passion for teaching, her pioneering spirit, and her unwavering belief in the power of education left an indelible mark on generations of students and educators alike.
Pauli found great joy in the arts and sports. She was an avid fan of professional tennis and basketball, always cheering on her favorite players with enthusiasm. A lover of music, she especially enjoyed classical compositions and the smooth sounds of artists like Vikki Carr, Nancy Wilson and Sérgio Mendes & Brazil '66. The rhythms of bossa nova often filled her home and classroom, where she also shared her love of music by playing the piano with grace and warmth.
One of Pauli's special gifts was her love for cooking-an art she learned from her mother, mastering the joy and tradition of homemade Italian cuisine. She treasured her vast collection of cookbooks and delighted in setting a beautiful table to welcome family and friends, especially during holiday gatherings, which were among her favorite times of the year.
Pauli also had a keen eye for fashion and a love for beauty. She took great pride in her appearance, always well-dressed with impeccable hair and makeup-radiating elegance and grace every day.
Above all, her greatest source of pride and joy was her family. She celebrated the lives and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with immense love and unwavering support.
Pauli lived an abundant, meaningful, and fulfilling life-marked by confidence, generosity, and grace. From beginning to end, she carried herself with purpose and touched the lives of many through her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering kindness. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Pauli was the kind of Kindergarten teacher that everyone wanted to be! She was my first encounter in Modesto City Schools district, as directed by the Associate Superintendent who obviously thought she was very special. Her background in early childhood education impressed me on that first visit and she became my mentor and dear friend throughout my 32 year career and beyond. Our friendship was filled with good times, laughter, trips and lots of good Italian food! My memories of her will be...
