TRAVERSE CITY — Pearl Marie Livingston, 90, of Traverse City, passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at French Manor, just five days shy of her 91st birthday.

Pearl was born Oct. 3, 1918, in Coleman, to the late Fritz and Essie Methner. She married the late Jack Livingston in Owosso on July 3, 1938. Together they had two loving children.

Pearl enjoyed going to the local square dances, where she was known for her lemon meringue pie.

As a child, Pearl's family were avid baseball fans; her uncles formed their own baseball team that traveled around Michigan. The Detroit Tigers were her favorite team to watch.

Pearl will be remembered for baking wonderful bread and desserts. She also had a love for animals and left behind her special companion, Ginger.

Surviving Pearl are her children, Don (Jean) Livingston and Linda (Stan) Kukla; grandchildren, Kelly (Dave) Majszak, Camie (Irfan) Basoral, Jody (Brian) Barton, Brian (Shannon) Kukla and Kristi (Leonard) Peryam; and great-grandchildren, Nichole, James, Cody, Brianna, Jahle, Jonah, Grace, Ava and Logan.

Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; siblings, Genevieve, Harold and Fritz; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Hunter.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Paul Ward and the staff at French Manor for their loving care.

Visitation will be held today, Sept. 30, 2009, from 3 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, also at the funeral home, with visitation held one hour prior. Inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.

Don, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. It was always fun to stop and talk to her (and Ginger) at Bay Ridge! She was such a great gal. And to be able to remind her each time that she would watch us play softball at the Civic Center....what great memories! She's now watching over all of those she touched in some way and healthy once again.

I have so many great memories of Aunt Pearl and Uncle Jack. When I was young, they lived two doors down from my own Grama. We enjoyed lots of family get-togethers and cookouts back in those days. We watched a lot of the two of them square dancing. I always loved to see one float in particular coming down Front Street during the Cherry Festival, knowing they'd be on it. And who could possibly forget the wonderful smell of their kitchen when you walked past her beautiful roses into the...
