I met Peggy when she became my boss at NC Community Colleges 1981. My son, who was four at the time, remembers meeting Scott when they were at the office. I worked for Peggy for four years and then was told about a vacancy with NC Dept of Public Instruction. I had to submit a resume, which Peggy graciously assisted me in writing; and I got the job. I just learned too that Peggy had moved to Glenaire, which is just down the street from me. If I had known, I would have loved to visit her. ...

Peggy guided the N.C. Child Care Coalition as chair for several years and was a mentor to me for which I am forever grateful. She was always kind, considerate, and knowledgeable just the kind of leader I aspired to be. The field of early childhood education is stronger for her leadership and perseverance and so many children and families benefitted from her years of service!

Peggy Ball was the Director when I was hired at the Division of Child Development. She was a very intelligent lady and spent time to share information with me on a variety of topics. Even after she left the Division, when she would come to the office to visit, she would always seek me out. My sincere condolences to the Ball Family. May God bless you all during this time of bereavement. Be strong.

Remember the first person who influenced your career? For me, that person is Peggy Ball. I am forever grateful to her for serving as my mentor during my early years in the North Carolina Community College System. She taught me a lot about how to work with a board, manage a team, enjoy work, and maintain a work-life balance. Peggy influenced countless lives. I count myself lucky to have known her.

Peggy was an amazing colleague and mentor. I had the pleasure of working closely with her at ICF and she was so committed to our work and our team. She brought so much joy to the work with her sense of humor, her dedication to high quality services for children and families. I miss her genuine appreciation for those around her. She was fierce leader with a gentle soul. I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to get to know her through our work. My deepest sympathies to everyone in the family.

I was so saddened by the news of Peggy's death. She was a wonderful mentor to me as my boss at the Division of Child Development. She taught me so much about leadership and how to be a successful manager while also being a very caring and warm person. I still quote Peggy when faced with tough times. We also shared a love of plants and she was always willing to share a cutting or a plant with other plant lovers. I send prayers for sympathy and comfort to her family. I am thankful to have...
