Clayton, North Carolina - Peggy Nichols Byrd, age 86, of Clayton passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health after a period of declining health. She was predeceased by her husband, Chalmers Byrd; parents, John W. and Ruby Bryant Nichols and brother, Durward Nichols. Peggy retired on April 29, 1994 after serving as the Assistant Clerk of the Supreme Court of North Carolina for many years.
She is survived by her brother and wife, J. W. and Annie Nichols of Clayton; niece and husband, Teresa Nichols Smith and Norwood of Wilmington, and her "precious" Diamond.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with the family receiving friends prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:30pm. Burial will follow the services at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at SECU Hospice House and Mark Woodworth, Christina, and Savannah of Bee at Home Services for their care of Peggy over the past couple of years.
