Peggy Aileen Bird Jacobson, died April 25, 2012, at Missoula Community Medical Center. Peggy was born March 3, 1932 in North Bend, Oregon to James E. and Berniece Graham Bird. When Peggy was two years old the family moved to Green Acres, Oregon. When she was three and a half her baby brother Jim Jr. joined the family. The family weathered the depression there where they had chickens and a cow. They grew their own fruit, vegetables and berries, made their own butter and ice cream sharing the surplus with Aunt Mattie and her brood of six. When Peggy was 5 ½ the family moved to North Bend, Oregon where she started school graduating from North Bend High in 1950. That September, she started nurses training at Sacred Heart General Hospital in Eugene. While still in training she met and married David Jacobson. They had three children Kathryn, Donald and Thomas. The family moved from North Bend, Oregon to Missoula before the children started school. As a Registered Nurse she worked in Obstetrics, Medical, Surgical and Psychiatric Units while living in Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Montana. She worked in the First ICU at St. Patrick's Hospital and took a Pilot Course in reading EKG's to assist her in teaching other nurses. Later in her career she was the Supervisor of the Care Unit for Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation in Missoula and set up a similar Unit in Washington for CompCare. She was active in Montana Nurse's Association, Toastmistresses, White Shrine of Jerusalem, is a Past Worthy Matron of Electa Chapter #7 Order of Eastern Star, and served on several boards including the Missoula Housing Board of Representing Elderly and Handicapped Individuals. She traveled a lot but was happiest at home with her Grandchildren, her Great Grandchildren and playing Pinochle with friends and family. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, crossword puzzles and making breads and candy at Christmas time. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Berniece, sister Luetta Weber and brother Edwin Bird. Surviving are brother Jim Bird of Troutdale, Oregon, daughter Kathy Jacobson (Carl), Missoula, sons Donald Jacobson (Sue), Butte, Thomas Jacobson (Cathie), Missoula, 8 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 9 Nieces and Nephews. Services will be held at Missoula Bible Church, 4455 Highway 10 W, on Monday, April 30, at 10:00 a.m. with reception to follow.
