Peggy Ann Sartain

I would not be able to write this note without Dr. Sartain. She treated me at Children's in 1981 for Burkitt's and her knowledge is why I was able to defeat the cancer. I have many stories and memories of her from the Hospital and from Camp Esperanza at both locations, Gainsville and John Marc. She will be very missed.

I am truely shocked to hear of Dr. Sartains death.I was blessed to have her as my oncology doctor back in the 80s and I survived cancer twice, thanks to Dr. Sartain. She means the entire world to me!! I have the best memories ever with her every summer at Camp Esperanza, the memories that stick with me forever! She will be missed and never forgotten. So much can be said about Dr. Sartain. I worked with her in the heme clinic for 12 yrs. We we're all just like family. I got to see her good days and bad days. When she had a bad day the next day she would do a tuna lunch for us. I worked the front desk checking in the patients.When I left Children's we still kept in touch. I am going to miss getting her Christmas cards every year.

Holly & Amy. As the other "little girl," I must add to Carolyn's message. The memories of our childhood with your mom and Peggy helped mold what we all ultimately became. I will always remember Peggy's distintive laugh and the little-girl giggles we all could not control once they got started. So many happy times and mischievious stunts. Peggy was a great lady and will be missed.

Although I couldn't be there this morning, I was with you all in spirit. I spent the morning looking at family pictures and remembering the wonderful times we shared as children. Pat and Peggy, as the oldest, were the inspiration for all the high jinks. Peggy, Pat and Grace were the big girls and your mother, Betty and I were the little girls. HOLLY AND AMY: As a member of the "Heme Team" from about 1977-1984, I will forever be inspired by Peggy's dedication to caring for the WHOLE child and family, not just the sick part. Peggy would never refer to the "Hemophiliac in room 210"; she new each child and family member, and called them by name. That dedication led her to pioneer other services that focused on the whole family, including adding a Child Life staff member in Hematology/Oncology and Camp Esperanza.

Peggy, Sally and I were founding directors of Camp Esperanza/The Bridewell Foundation. She was a wonderful Doctor and friend to the campers and their families.

HOLLY AND AMY; My husband and I visited Peggy at the Summit in late June. We had our dog with us and she got to visit also. I will cherish the memory of Peggy petting our dog with her good hand! And l will cherish all my memories of working with Peggy at Children's and at Camp Esperanza. We are in North Carolina and won't get to see you but you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
