Not sure what to say?

Penny Buchanan was an outstanding mentor teacher for me in my 1964-70 initial teaching experience @ Hawken School in Cleveland OH. I was an apprentice in her 6th grade homeroom in 1964-5, after my graduation from college. I learned so very much under her wise and exacting tutelage. I´m forever grateful to Penny for her work with me during the initial developing stages of my teaching career. She was indeed one of the very finest educators & school administrators I´ve known. Because of the...

Mrs. Buchanan, as I knew her as a student at Hawken, inspired me to be a better person and student through the example of being herself: rigorous, thoughtful, gracious and honest. Recently, I had the good fortune of reconnecting with Penny. I always enjoyed our conversations because Penny’s level of listening was exceptional and her insight well measured. A life lived with such intelligence and humanity is a rare gift to all of us.

kudos PD's Grant Segall on Penny's obit ~ very well written/researched: capturing this wonderful "Lady" beautifully.

Penny was truly "an unforgettable character" in the most positive "Reader's Digest" manner! She was bigger than life! I had the gr8 good fortune to work with and for her @ Hawken School in the mid 1960's.
She definitely commanded respect from everyone & NEVER had to demand it!
It was an HONOR indeed to know and work alongside this "master teacher."

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

Penny, you were always interested and interesting. Thank you for teaching me to draw ("It's really a matter of learning to see", you said.) and for the lifetime of joy and fulfullment it will provide. I will remember you with great fondness and gratitude!

Thanks Penny for your warmth, joy, love you shared so generously with the TRC at the CMA over the years. How we miss you!

Oh my gosh, Penny, How could you leave us with out saying "Good bye"? How can we leave without your lovely lilt, wry smile, the twinkle in the eye and the slight crinkle of the nose? We can't but we will try! I'll never forget you! Love - Robin

Penny was always the best read library patron and booster besides being great fun to visit with. She gave generously of her time and talent throughout the greater Cleveland area. What a lovely lady!
