Owens and Brumley Funeral Home - Wichita Falls Obituary

Penny Kathleen Cook of Iowa Park, Texas, departed this life on December 22, 2023, at the age of 73.

Penny was born on July 21, 1950, to Eugene and Madonna McNeely in Kansas City, Missouri. As an Air Force Brat, Penny had an adventurous childhood that took her across the world, including Turkey and England. She went on to graduate from Burkburnett High School in Burkburnett and married the love of her life, Jimmy Cook, on March 1, 1969. In their 54 years together, Jimmy and Penny welcomed three beautiful children, eleven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and several beloved pets.

Those who knew Penny knew she had a heart for serving those around her. She was active in her community and over the years, she gave up her time to volunteer at Hospice of Wichita Falls, and as a prison minister at James V. Allred Unit.  Penny was also passionate about politics and served as precinct chair and as a delegate to the county and state Democratic conventions.  She was also extremely committed to her church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls. Penny served in the youth and premarital ministries, and as a Eucharistic minister and Sunday School teacher.  Penny loved her faith, family, friends, and pets fiercely and will be dearly missed.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy; daughter, Lisa Jones of Grapevine, Texas; son, Christopher Cook of Flower Mound, Texas; daughter, Angela Holt and her husband, Cody of Lawton, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren Alyssa, Adam, and Maggie Jones of Grapevine, Texas, Kaitlyn and Kelsey Cook of Flower Mound, Texas, and Connor, Morgan, Devin, Emma, Emerson, and Isabella Holt of Lawton, Oklahoma; brother, Gene McNeely and his wife, Pat of Lipan, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that will miss her dearly.

A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:00 p.m. followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls with Rev. Kyle Walterscheid, celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow.

Not sure what to say?

Penny was so proud of her family and we know you all miss her terribly. Praying you are finding peace through your faith and fond memories.

I'm so sorry for you. I didn't know when the services were or I would have been there. I think so much of you and Penny and feel the loss of for you as I know the difficult times. It's been 16 years for me and I still miss my David every day. I am so glad God blest you with Penny and your many years together. Prayers for you all.

Penny did it right – she had a deep sense of faith, an unquestionable love for her family and a lifelong history of service to her church and community.

While Penny’s earthly presence has come to an end, the example that she left all of us and the impact that she had on so many people, will live on forever.

May God Bless Penny and the entire Cook/McNeely family.
