Byles Memorial Home - New London Obituary

PENNY S. POST age 59 of Ledyard, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.


She was born in Westerly, on August 27, 1964 the daughter of the late Floyd and Nancy Chesbro Maher. Penny was married to Albert Post on February 28, 2018 and he survives.


She graduated from Robert E. Fitch Sr. High School in Groton in the class of 1983 and volunteered at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. She worked for the Groton Board of Education as a custodian at the Northeast Academy School in Groton. 


Penny was passionate about gardening and loved spending time with her family. She was kind considerate and helpful to everyone she met and she loved all the children at the school. God needed another angel and got a very good one. 


Besides her husband she is survived by her sons, Spencer and Robert Dawson, Jr of Ledyard, her daughters, Jessica Dawson of Venice, FL, Kimberly Dawson and Bethany Messier both of Griswold, her brothers, Mike and Floyd Maher Jr. of Groton, a sister, Wendy Dedic of Scottsdale, AZ and her 4 grandchildren, Tesla and Eddison Gross and Ethan and Liam Messier. She was predeceased by her son Ryan and her brothers Joe and Bobby. 


A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 2  at 1 o’clock at Ledyard Center Cemetery, Rte 117 Ledyard. Visitation will be from 11 until 12:30 at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St.
