New London, NH-Peter R. Dodd, 73, of Bunker Road, died Sunday, October 29, 2023 peacefully at his home with his wife, Jenny, and sweet puppies, Maggie and Leo, by his side.
He was born on April 26, 1950 in Rockville Centre, NY to Richard Ernest Dodd and Eloise (Husted) Dodd. He was raised in Levettetown, NY and had dreams of flying as he looked at the model airplanes hanging from the ceiling of his room.
He played the French Horn in the school band, became an Eagle Scout and worked at a local airport saving his money for flying lessons and funds for college. He graduated from Western Michigan University with an Aviation Degree and then joined the US Navy. Peter went on to flight school proudly receiving his "Wings of Gold". Eventually he was based at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in southern Maryland.
When Peter was in Maryland he met Jenny Lee Rintoul in 1976 and they were married in 1980. The first time he met Jenny he told her that he wanted to become a commercial pilot and live in Sunapee, NH.
When he left active duty Navy (returned to Navy as reservist to retirement in 2001) he was hired by American Airlines and later was based in Boston. Peter and Jenny left Maryland and moved to Bow, NH in 1989. In 2005 they moved to the home Peter loved in Sunapee, NH and named it "Flight's End" where they continued to build their life and lived for almost 25 years.
Life called them back south where they lived in southern Maryland near the Chesapeake Bay enjoying friends, family, sailing and life's adventures. In 2020 they moved back to NH finding their new home in New London. Peter loved his family, his friends, his country, flying, sailing and his New Hampshire. Now he is off to earn another very special set of wings.
He is survived by his wife, Jenny, of New London; a brother, Philip Richard Dodd of Rochester, NY; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Lee and Elaine Rintoul of McKinney, TX; a nephew, Cory Lee Rintoul of Monument, CO, a niece, Casey Lee (Leonardo) Lombardo of Miami, FL and their baby, Oscar; much loved family friends, Megan Hanburger Bonfili of Midlothian, VA, Henry (Jennifer) Hanburger of Edgewater, MD and Katie Hanburger of South Pasadena, CA.
A private celebration of Peter's life will be held. Please remember him in your own way.

Fair winds and following seas, Pete. I am so very sad to hear of your passing.
It was always my pleasure to fly with Pete. He was a great conversationalist and always had a good book to recommend.
Pete was a true patriot and was very proud of his Navy career.
